Hi guys any idea about how to add 6th gear to pulsar 180 ug4 r p220. Have anyone tried it and is it possible.
The thing is i feel that my P180 needs a 6th gear above 80kmph as i feel that the engine is feeling strained... so need your advice. |

Adding a 6th gear is what I was asking people back in 2008 when I got my bike. All the pulsars feel undergeared. Try the 220 rear sprocket which has lesser teeth than your current stock sprocket. this will make your bike more relaxed and will cruise comfortably at the cost of acceleration.
You have to sacrifice low end to get more top end. You have to sacrifice top end for more acceleration. Taller gearing (read: Smaller rear sprocket) will give you more top end but lesser acceleration.

What are the negatives of a 6 geared vehicles compared to a 5 geared vehicle of the same specs.
For example, compare a 6 geared apache 180 to a 5 geared apache 180 hypothetically.

None. If the ratios are just like the current one with the addition of a 6th gear which is slightly taller than the 5th gear, there would be no problem at all. Instead bike will cruise better and may also attain a better top speed

Or a bike with comparatively little torque can benefit from an increased ratio range. Sometimes 6th gear is used as an overdrive gear(as seen in the Suzuki GS150R) so that the previous gears can be narrower to allow increased acceleration (and thus performance) in the lower gears, but still be able to obtain good speeds whilst achieving more economy figures. BTW the gear ratios of RTR180 are ultra short and we always get the feel of having a 6th cog! ;-)

[QUOTE=Drifty;714037]I dont see any negatives with a 6 speed gearbox. The only disadvantage will be the added weight in a 6 speed gearbox .A vehicle with a 6th gear will be able to cruise at higher speeds at lower rpms without stressing the engine as compared to 5 speed gbox.It can be related to something like torque for example, a bike with good torque often doesn't require more gears because you'll lose time through changing, or gain no benefit in other words.
