Default Help Needed for my 1984 RE 350 Standard

Hi All,

I have 1984 Royal Enfield 350 Standard which i purchased few months back. Got it serviced from a trusted mechanic and till now it was working fine.

Now here is the problem which i can't understand

Once my bike's fuel was stolen from parking lot (got to know that after few meters), and when i tried to start, the kick lever was going down without any kind of compression . This happened once again after few days when the bike hit reserve and i was trying to start.I can't understand what this is due to?

I am a short guy, around 5'3'' and the handle bars are now giving me pain around the neck and shoulder, i read in xbhp that replacing with RD350's handler bar will help, but then one of my friend said increasing the saddle's height will help. Now i am confused as to what should i go with? Increasing saddle height may not be good for me coz of my short height . Please suggest

Thanks.

Default Modify the seat and lower the handlebars

Hi,

Not sure @ the compression problem - I think you will need to get that sorted out with a good mechanic.

@ your other problem of back-pain -
My height is similar to you - 5'3" to be exact. I too ride a bullet - Standard 350UCE.

I am ok with stock handlebar (though in your case the handlebar itself may be different). I have lowered the handlebars to maximum extent, and have also got the seat modified - i.e. removed some cushioning - lowered by 1 inch or so.
With these 2 things, my ride had improved a lot and hardly any back ache is there.

One more advantage is that the center of gravity is also lower now and results in better control.

Hope this helps....

Cheers and happy thumping!
Anand

the compression problem can be due to a tight de-compression cable. Get the free play adjusted in the cable and it wont / shouldnt happen.

Get it checked by a good mechanic. Probably its the compression leaking or worn out piston rings but can't link it to the petrol problem anyhow o_O

Worn out piston ring would mean the oil getting into combustion chamber and will lead to spark plug being oily black along with black smoke from silencer rite?
Presently the condition is not that.

For the compression there could be two reasons, Head valve issue or leak in the head and piston block.

For the Seat Adjustment-you need to remove the seat rest(below the seat) and put the new seat with the low height - 350 RD handle bars would be more comfortable
