  • Pulsar 150 UG4.5, Engine vibration problem.

    Hi all,

This is my first bike, so I don't no much about bikes, I purchased P150 U.G 4.5 on August 12, I have completed 1700kms upto now. Second service is due on 5000kms.

I have followed the run-in period strictly and never crossed 50 in my first 1000kms. After 1000kms I started crossing 50, and I noticed vibration in engine after 50kphm, this vibration increases and becomes more violent as I reach 60, and I can notice engine being uncomfortable after 55 with some noise.

The bike is smooth through its transition from 1-4th gears but in 5th gear after I cross 50kph, engine starts vibrating. I don't no whether this is a serious problem as I have never owned a bike, but I think a 150cc bike shouldn't vibrate at speeds of 60. Please help me

    Regards,
    Kiran.S.V

It should'nt happen as you are saying. Which brand\specification engine oil you are using? Check the drive chain play, was the clutch opened? You might also need to do balancer shaft setting.

EDIT: Tighten the engine mounting bolts too.

just to be sure the vibrations are coming from the engine rev. your bike in neutral and simultaneously try revving a different pulsar(i'm sure availability of another pulsar won't be an issue).
if the engine appears to be smooth then i'm pretty sure the problem is with the rim or the tyres.(did u get eurogrip or MRF ??)
coz my friend also had a similar problem and later he noticed the problem was due to the bent rim.
also put your bike in main stand on a level ground and engage gears upto fifth gear and rev about till 6,000RPM then if the bike wobbles and shakes then the real culprit are the tyres or the rim.!!!!

          A Simple Screw.

          Hi All,

I once had a similar problem. I could feel some queer vibrations and there was also some noise emanating from the engine. When I took it to a mechanic suspecting all kinds of problems like low engine oil, etc. all the mechanic had to do was tighten a screw. I know this answer sounds silly but silly is exactly how I felt when the noise stopped as the mechanic tightened the screw!

PS The Screw was somewhere near the engine on the front side. Sorry that I am not technical enough to describe the precise location.

            Thanks for the reply guys,

@abhi: The engine oil was changed at first service by service center people, they had charged 500rs for the oil, I don't exactly no what oil they have filled. Sorry abhi I don't no anything about balancer shaft setting, drive chain play, all those points went over my head. And I have never opened clutch.

@V!RU$: Thank you very much for your suggestion, I am going to try it today, mine are eurogrip tyres. The road I travel is filled with potholes, I have over speeded on many of pot holes, so let me check whether the problem is from tyre/rim.

@Killer_Rider: hmmm I might as well take my bike to the service center.

The vibration is coming from the engine and not because of rim or tyre, service center guy told it might be because of some idle gear or something, and would fix it on second service

Meanwhile yesterday my bike was in the rain, and when I opened the fuel cap at petrol bunk there was water on the inside edge of the tank, the guy filling the petrol told that water shouldn't go inside tank. Can this cause any problem.

I have also noticed that the engine is making more noise than before, and the pickup of the bike has also reduced, and I also noticed that the engine gets heated quite quickly even if I drive within 50kph for 15mins, is it normal..

I am thinking to change the engine oil, any suggestions for engine oil pulsar 150 UG4.5

                Hi Kiran,

I am facing the same problem as yours.

Last month I bought new Bajaj Pulsar 150 UG4.5 and completed 1300 kms . 1st service was done and 2nd service is due, After first service I started exceeding 50 km/h for the first time. Now the problems are started i.e. engine is overheating even for 10km ride, vibration after reaching 60kmph, low pickup and I get a feel like riding a 100cc bike with pillion ride(so much noise & low pickup).

I seriously doubt with this condition my bike cant reach 75kmph speed also. In first service they changed to new Bajaj engine oil, got this oil checked yesterday and they said engine oil quality is too good. Not sure then y no pickup and overheat issues.

Please let me know if you have got a solution for your bike issues as my issues are same as yours.
Couldn't go on a long trip because of these issues.

                Regards
                Sri

Bajaj oil is crap. next time go for a better one. The overheating may be caused by a lean engine. Does the bike feel out of breath at during rapid acceleration or when riding at higher speeds?? Ask the svc if the carburetor is properly tuned. Check the condition of your spark plugs.

                    Thank you WindRider,

Yes, The bike feels out of breath during rapid acceleration(with a lot of noise and difficulty I could reach 74kmph speed), and during pillion rider bike makes more noise with low pickup.
Shall I myself adjust the screw to allow rich mixture? or better to ask SVC person to check it?

Do you have ample clutch free play??
Check the carburetor ducts for air leaks..
Is the kick lever hard or easy to kick?
                      Any difficulty in cold starts?

                        Viru,

Clutch is free and in good condition, Kick Lever also easy to kick and never faced a problem with start, after 3-4 days gap also bike starts with single kick.
I need to check the carburetor. by the way bike is 45 days old ran only 1500 km. my main concerns are unable to reach good speed & engine overheating. what could be the issue. Appreciate your help.

Unless you are absolutely sure how to tune the carb, don't do it. Best leave it to the professionals.

Since the bike is new and not crossed 2000kms yet,I suggest donot accelerate hard atleast not on a cold engine...
You can take the bike to service center as the bike is fairly new
