Default My pulsar tuning gone bad

Dear ones ,
Im not a techie in bike but I understand my bikes performance.Im a new user to this forum but I used to read the threads.

Mine is 150 DTS I 2008 ug3 blue pulsar. This is my first bike. I love it very much and I used maintain it very well.
Every 2.5Km i change the oil with castrol power 1.
Every 6 months once I change the brake shoes
Every 3 months once (i.e 3000kM I used to do General service)
Monthly once water service
Tyre pressure maintenance
Yearly once I change the clutch cable and the accelerator cable

I bought this vehicle from shakthi bajaj chennai on may 2008.
In BP petrol pump I put the speed petrol for rs 200 that time the speed petrol price is rs 60. My bike was in reserve mode only I saw it is running more than 180 km so I dont want to take risk so I have put petrol. which means it gave me more than 60 km / litre.

After that I sticked with normal petrol. I used put petrol reserve to reserve. I wont drive my vehicle in reserve mode. I used to perfect 55 to 58 km per litre.

when I reached 2500 km I gave for the 2nd free service. I felt the pick up of my bike is low. I just told the mechanic to increase the pickup. When I got the bike I got exactly 30 km per litre. Thats all this is the end of my bikes performance. nearly I wud have consulted 50 mechanics in chennai. I went to khiviraj , shakthi bajaj and many local mechanics. they tuned and tuned but they can't bring to the company original setting. I did once the MRTB test but no use.

Then I found all these mechanics are cheaters they are not real techi in mechanic.I read in a website how to tune the bike to achieve optimum performance. I hope most of them wud have seen that. making 3000RPM and tuning the air screw and checking the rpm get stable then reducing the idle screw to 1.2. I started to do it by myself and test my bike with 100ml test can. I used to get 5.2km for 100 ml petrol but when i put 1 ltr petrol in my tank in the main i used to get max of 42 to 45 only. I tried this tuning many times I tried with most of the mechanics. I dont wish to stick with these mechanics.

One of my friend bought the same model just 2 month before i bought still he used to get the standard mileage. around 54 to 56 kmpl.his carburetor never been tuned by any mechanic.

I want anyone to teach me how to tune that bronze screw and idle screw to get company original setting. how many full rotation wiil give the original settings. Now my screw is 360 degree 4 rounds out.

Pls help me. Im sure my bike is capable of giving good mileage. Initially i drove between 40 to 50 till 2000 km. that time i used to get exactly between 55 to 58 kmpl

Thanks for the help

Try swapping the carburetor of a pulsar which is giving good mileage and then check the mileage of your bike ,if it increases then you have a messed up carburetor which can be repaired or re-tuned but if there is no significant change in mileage then other part(s) may be faulty.

Check it and report back.

Thanks

My suggestion is - Can I buy a new carburetor and fix it. But my doubt is, If I buy a new one again is there a need to tune the carb or it has company original setting? if it has original setting so that can this bike can give proper mileage? If the tuning required means again its a head ache. no one s a good mechanic by understanding the basics and tuning.

One more heads up. When i was in this tuning process one of the mechanic told me that the timing need to be adjusted. He told he s going to adjust the timing. After that my bike pick up was too low. Is timing is related to mileage.

What is timing?

Timing is the matching of the spark plug's firing so that it fires (sparks) exactly when the air-fuel mixture in the cylinder is at maximum compression , i.e the piston is at the maximum travel (tdc) of the compression stroke of the 4-stroke engine -- and just then the plug fires to ignite the mixture and ensure near full combustion .

You can't adjust the timing and it has nothing to do with your present problem...
First of all check and clean your Air Filter...if the FE does not improve then You have to try and adjust the AFR screw by turning it HALF turn CLOCKWISE from present position..
The AFR (Air Fuel Ratio)screw makes the AF change with the setting...Turning it Clockwise will make the AF mix lean, ie.,less petrol and Anti Clockwise rich...So to get better mileage turn the AFR screw Clockwise to make the AF mix lean..if you lean the mix too much you will have starting and running problems...so do only half turn clockwise.
Here is a pic of Pulsar carb to explain...

Hi Sir ,
Hope ur a good techie sound mechanic.

I have changed the Air filter, both the Spark plugs. Now i don't have starting prob in the morning. Normally i used to kick start in the morning.

I dont get the beat sound and the engine sound. very low tup tup tup sound. This happens when I start the bike after long time rest. If I raise the bike then It will give normal pulsar sound. RPM will be 1100.

As u shown in pic the pulsar carb I can see the AF srew (AF adj). The same screw I used to tune. That is in bronze. The position in the pic is the same I have. And when I tight it fully in clockwise it reaches the maximum position in the same horizontal position which shown in the picture. So from that point now I have turned anti clockwise 6 full turns. that is 360 degree.

Is this correct. How shud I check it is correct?

In another site I found the correct mixture is 1:3 ratio. Air 3 and fuel 1 ratio.

One small hint. When I bought this bike I told that when I put speed, power petrol I used to get 60 kmpl. Unleaded petrol 55 kmph petrol. So during this period when I kick 1st time It wont start. At least I need to struggle 4 or 5 times.

Can u track something with this. Is there a separate screw for controlling the AIR input?. PLs help me. It will be thankful to you. If any pin or needle or any stuff inside the carburetor will help in mileage?

Check The reed switch because a faulty switch will give you less power and mileage.
-Clean the carburetor and check for any clogging and wear of jets.

With my 150 UG4 I used to get arnd 55 kmpl till 1st service only..
After that I could never touch 50kmpl. Though when I bugged the service center guys, the 100ml can always showed 5.2kms..
After that, now odo at 25k, I have learnt to be happy if the bike gives 42-45kmpl..

If something else can be done to improve this, It would be like a rebirth for my bike..

OK sure I will try that. Is there anything that i need to change inside the carburetor like the jet/needle

And what is the normal mileage should attain when I switch the petrol tap from main to off. So that I can check the mileage improvement easily with switch off the petrol flow
