Default Used 250R: Buy here or Bring it down

I am looking for an Ninja 250R, now that I know I will be using it only till Jan 2013 (max) I started searching for used bikes than buying a new 250R.

I will be travelling to US this march(2012) on vacation for a month.

1. Should I consider bringing down a used Ninja 250R from US.
2. If "No" is the answer to point "1", please explain why?
3. If "Can" is the answer, please provide clarity on below points
4. What are the formalities and procedure to bring it to india.
5. Has anyone done this recently, please share the experience.
6. What are the cost and pain involved.

I'm surprised at your question Yuvi...especially on "Should I consider bringing down a used Ninja 250R from US", which is a no brainer required!!!

If you want to spend 4-5L on a used Ninja 250R, then opt for option #1

Go with what all of us have suggested; all of us can't go wrong!!!

Ninja 250 from US ? Don't go through the pain of getting it from abroad and go through different Govt., formalities and clear the bike in may be 6 moth's time ...and end up paying more than what it costs here ?
From what i had heard Hyosung 650 is going to be made here in a Year and drastic price drop expected.
Pulsar 220/250 with four valves is under testing to be released in a month's time...and to be priced competitively....
If you can wait, you will be rewarded with a VFM bike,of your choice.
Just my thought.

Ninja 250 sold in USA is a carb version. It will cost upwards of 4L+.

You will not save anything and resale will be a issue.

You may have to import carb related parts which PBK may not help you with..

If you are seriously looking, I'll get you some contacts for non TN ninja's on sale

I'm still sceptical of selling my 250, and it is so difficult to part with such a lovely machine.

Other option for you is GT650N which you can get for 4L+

Call me if you need any pointers for used ones..

Shrini did this, which ofcourse is justified on his case, recently. Yuvi, bet you beer to dollar, you'll drop this idea after going through this - Detailed info on importing a bike from USA - Team-BHP

Only worth doing on TR, I don't think a months vacation will count as residency in the US, in the scenario of importing via TR it's not worth while doing it on a 250R, something bigger would be ideal, wish I had brought at R6 or CBR 600RR when I shifted here (wasn't into bikes then)

No it doesn't; even if it did, Indian Govt allows with a minimal tax only when the vehicle is OWNED for a min period of 2 years before bringing into the country.

Thanks for the approval MG

@aargee - yep exactly "no brainer required". Came across a <$3000 sale of a sparsely used 2009 250R in AR. The seller is a friend of my friend so thought should I take the deal and take the pain in bringing it down. For that I just wanted to dig on the costs involved. So my deal will and pain will get through only if it is cost effective. Forget it if I have to spend more than 2.5L .

Thanks for the link Aargee, it helped me

@PSR - 6 months to clear the formalities.

@Ananth : Get me the contacts
