Adios folks.
Just a week now, I've been hearing a strange noise on my 220, she's a year old and clocked 4800 KMS. The problem is, when I apply the front brake, I hear a ONE "TAK" sound. When I stop and compress the bike, I hear none, I compressed it like hell, just to check what prob it is, but no sound whatsoever. But the moment I start moving, and press the front brake, I hear one "TAK" And I have no idea what could be wrong. ![]() I tried all else, no wobbling. Also put her in main stand, and tried jostling and fiddling with the forks and no shakiness or unusual movements whatsoever. What might be the problem? Am I in here for any terminal damage? ![]() Thanks Noob |

@Ankur: The sound is due to the fork. When in motion, you apply front brake, the weight shifts to the front. This makes the fork, dip in. So, the noise comes out, when the fork and cone-set aren't adjusted and fork-oil is low. You can't hear the noise when still, as no mass movement or fork-dipping is happening. PBK service mech. will be easily able to fix that.

No the sound is not of the fork. The sound of the front suspension bottoming-out is way different. This is definitely a cone-set issue. It must have worn out. Excessively bad roads/offraoding/hitting potholes causes accelerated wear of the cone-set. Get it replaced. Didn't cost more than 400 for spares and 100 for labour on my 180UG3.
A quick fix is to tighten the steering bolt. But that would cause the cone-set to wear further faster and the handle becomes too tight when the bolt is tightened. Replacement is inevitable.

Thanks Johnny. Thing is I took it to my local mech, I don't trust PBK guys ![]() He took it for a ride, he clearly told me it was a loose fork, as you said, he did some adjusting, but still the sound persists, but this time the sound a little muted, but still I was able to hear it, anway. Then he bent to check the brakes. He asked me to put the bike in main stand and he started jostling the front brake caliper. He asked to me apply the brake when wheel is rotating and then "TAK" I can hear it, repeating the same process again, he told the brake pad in the fronts have been a little worn on the holes part, or something so that sound comes. But I think this can be true since, you simply grab hold shake the front caliper set, you can hear the "TAK" sound, what say guys? Any more inputs. Thanks Quote:

@B7Ack: the thing is, you can change the frond-brake pad...brake pads cost pretty less...and see afterwards, if the sound is coming or not...
