Tip of the Day

Hot days - molten Tar = slip/slide

Hot days create more than one problem. Tarmac roads with a greater than normal proportion of tar mixed in their making is one. The extra targets soft and gooey. Brake hard on it or take a fast turn and the bike can slide as easily on it as on spilt oil. So watch it.

    Default Problem with Aftermarket Horns

    Hi everyone,

I have installed a pair of aftermarket horns about a couple of months back which worked perfectly till yesterday when a peculiar problem started with it.

The horns works fine for the first few usages (short presses around five times) after which it stops working and starts draining the battery (i can notice this as the indicators and angel eye looses power). The horns is working as i can hear very slight blips when i press the horn button but it is not working to its full potential as if it is not getting the power.

What could be the problem? Could it relay or the wiring?

About my bike - its converted into full DC using 19 gauge copper wire + APE RR / has HID + angel eye installed / 9ah battery

I checked the fuse it is perfect. All other components are working fine.

Earlier i thought the RR must have gone kaput but i think it is working fine and is charging the battery and all other components are working without a problem.

My bike is parked outside in the open and its raining here. I am ruling out the possibility of the wiring being the problem as other components are working fine. So could it be the relay? maybe the water has somehow entered inside?

    Experts please advise.

Are you using horns meant to be fitted as stock ones in cars? The car horns do tend to do such things when wet.

Do not know how the stock car horns look like but here is an image of the horn. I have a pair installed on my bike.

Another problem i noticed now. The HID also does not function to its full potential. Takes longer time to warm up and glow is not bright enough.

As soon as i press the horn button the HID goes off. Same is the problem with the angel eye and indicators everything goes for a toss.

Now i doubt either of the following or all

    a. wiring is shorting somewhere or has gone bad
    b. battery is not being charged properly by the APE RR which means the RR has gone bad
    c. battery (9ah) is not able to hold the charge which means the battery has gone bad
    d. improper grounding. But this whole setup has been working perfectly without any problems for the last one month till the rains hit.

Is that Roots Megasonic you using?
IF yes then these problems are normal as its a really heavy Horn and requires a battery with very good health.
    :) :D

Its not roots but some brand called Halex. Do not know how well they are built.

So does that mean that the battery is not getting charged properly?
