Hey all, Ashwin here. Recently, I did a ride to Hampi in Karnataka, about 425 km. from Hyderabad. The roads were good, but there were several series' of four to five speed breakers. In all, there were maybe 100-110 speed breakers on the trip.

After coming back from Hampi, I've been experiencing some problems in my day-to-day city riding. These are:

- Mild unbalancing in the front suspension, feels as if either the front wheel is loose or the wheels are misaligned. Could it also be that I have not changed my front fork oil since I got the bike and have finished 22 months/16000 km?

- Acceleration is smooth, but once I let the throttle go and hold the gear, there is some slight jerking as the bike loses speed. Why?

- I have dual air horns, but only one is blowing. The left side switchgear housing (horn button in particular) is slightly loose. What do I do?

- While returning from Hampi, I accidentaly took a speed bump at 65 km/h. I think this has resulted in my headlight angle being thrown out of whack. Possible?

- Anybody with TVS Apache experience, how long did your tyres last before going bald?

- Oil leaks. I had them before the ride, so I changed my seals. They're still there. What do I do?

- I've been riding with my shocks set on the fifth step (stiff and tight handling) for nearly 8 months, and I set them to the third step for the ride to add a bit more comfort. Could this affect my perception of handling or the handling itself? Does a stiffer bike go into corners better?

- I've noticed that lately, my rear brake pedal takes quite some depression to activate. My clutch also has very little free play. My front brakes aren't in good shape as there is no brake fluid visible in the chamber, and my disc pads and drum rubbers haven't been changed since purchase. What needs to be done on this front?

- I'm at the 16000 km. juncture. Are there any major parts to be changed at this point, i.e. air filter, chain and sprocket, clutch plates?

I'll be giving the gal to the TVS guys for a proper checkup and service complete with synthetic oil change sometime in the next three days. I'd like to get your inputs so I can determine what to tell them to look for, fix, and replace.

Hey Ashwin, My topic

--Absolutely nothing to do with the suspension, throw away the front tyre(if -you havent yet) and if you have then check the handle T and get it tightned, dont change the oil until and unless you ride on craters at high speed everyday.

--Hold the gear or clutch, if clutch, then check the chain.

--Get it opened up and serviced, if not servicable, throw away and buy new one, there is nothing important as Horn in city riding.


-- Yup possible and also can be easily corrected. Check the nut-bolt setup below the headlight.


--Dont even wait for them to go bald, please change before they change you.


--From Where?? Engine, go a proper engine mechanic and get the thing set properly, there are no seals as such in the engine head.


-- As people say, stiffer suspension improves handling, but very bad on back, I had almost broken my back while riding on hardest setting, after that experiment never tried that again.


-- Rear Brake: get the brake shoes checked and if worn out change and not worn out then set the play.

Front Brake: If fluid not changed then get it changed, check the indicator of brake pads and if worn out; replace, loose clutch get them tightend.


--All the parts to be changed are symptomatic, if there are symptoms then get them changed, but yeah do change the Air filter dont wait for symptoms

--See the Manual and get everything checked/tightned/replaced etc etc

worn out front tyres could hamper the feedback ....form the front seriously...change the tyre if nessary...

the chain noise mostly means that your chain has gotten lose....tighten it...and check if the noise still persists...and if it does its time to change your chain sprocket set....

get the brake pads changed....

no need to change the air filter...unless its become exxcively clogged...or become hard and brittle......a good wash in petrol would do just fine otherwise...
