Question Need Help! Riding a Victor from Chennai to Bangalore!

Hello Bikers!

After a screwed up ZMA, i would want to use my old TVS Victor GX for my daily office commute. (Read: 70+ Mileage)

I'm presently based out of Bangalore and my old trusty Victor is back in my native (Chennai). I would like to ride it down to Bangalore rather than transport it in a train.. that too in the busy Diwali season.

I need your help / suggestions / comments regarding the same. The bike has not been used properly for the last one year as i was settling down in Bangalore. The Bike has run around 25000 Kms. My questions are:

1. Can a three year old Victor be capable of doing Chennai - Bangalore (~350 Kms)?

2. What in case if it breaks in the middle of the highway - Any precautions / advices?

3. Should i change the engine oil before the ride or after it (Changed Engine Oil before 400 Kms) ?

4. The Victor tops out around 95 KM/H - what would be the best cruise speed to maintain on the highway (To prevent engine heat ups / break down)

5. How often should i take a break / rest? - Every 1 hour or around 70kms ?

Thanks in Advance

Hi Ananth,

My friend travelled from Bangalore to Hassan to and fro the same day.
Totally about 420kms on a Victor about 4 months back.
His Victor was also about 2yrs old, his journey was with out a hickup...
As per my tip, service the bike once before you leave.
Give the bike a stop of about 15mins maybe every one hour as you said(70-80kms), dont push the bike to much just maintaine about 70-80km/hr.
You will enjoy your road trip.

Cheers,
Josh!!!

1. Can a three year old Victor be capable of doing Chennai - Bangalore (~350 Kms)?

it should easily do

2. What in case if it breaks in the middle of the highway - Any precautions / advices?

get the bike serviced before you set out. change the oil, check the chain and the brakes get the clutch cables ,brake cables and throttle cable lubricated and if in bad shape replaced, spark plug and battery should also be checked

3. Should i change the engine oil before the ride or after it (Changed Engine Oil before 400 Kms) ?

before the ride ofcourse and pls give your bike a proper servicing

4. The Victor tops out around 95 KM/H - what would be the best cruise speed to maintain on the highway (To prevent engine heat ups / break down)

around 70 should be comfortable, its not that fast and its not that slow either. 80 and 90 would be too high considering the fact that you have not used it for a long time.BTW the tyre do get hard if you dont use it for long periods so check your tyres as well and take it easy for the 1st 100 kms

5. How often should i take a break / rest? - Every 1 hour or around 70kms ?

after every 1 hr of ride try to take 10- 15 mins of break.
Thanks in Advance
von voyage, ride safe and enjoy your ride. the answers are in bold letters above.

Thumbs down

Thanks for your inputs.. Unfortunately I crashed around 200 kms from Chennai.

Thankfully i am not hurt much - Have a few bruises and some Inner wounds.. Thanks to the Helmet and the Jacket.. i was left out only with scratches rather than broken bones..

The Bike was trashed and sent back to Chennai by Truck and I'm Safe @ Bangalore

Would write a log about that soon...
