So that the internals don't get rusted?

Although I find it stupid, beacuse your exhaust gases have enough unburnt hydrocarbons and carbon particles that will prevent rusting.

Frankly and logically - i dont see any point in filling muffler with oil.

AS FAR AS I KNOW.....
they do that because it helps your exhaust to last longer....
OIL in exhaust basically to avoid moisture so that baffles do not get rusted....
i didnt do it on my exhaust the first one...lasted for like 2 n half years then i got the DTSI exhaust onn and i used to get it done in every service....
IF YOU DONT KNOW the exhaust has a HOLE beneath o the excess oil drops out anyways....
dun worry its a good thing to do

The sound is normal.Since your bike is new,the sound emanating from the exhaust and the engine will seem different as the bike opens up.
Dont worry and enjoy your bike.Ride safe.
