        Hi mehulil,

        Route from Mumbai to Pune:
        1. Mumbai to Panvel road via Sion-Panvel highway
        2. Panvel normal NH4 (go below the flyover near Panvel McDonald's---- dont go over it... its express way)
        3. go straight where the roads go, you will cross khopoli (32km from Panvel)
        4. encounter khandala ghats, touch express way (for 6-7kms)
        5. check for left turn for Lonavala exit (compulsory for 2-wheelers---as 2-wheelers are not allowed beyond that point... so keep left after u cross tunnel---u'll see boards saying "Lonavala Exit")
        6. Cross Lonavala.... go straight... around 40kms.... you will reach Nigdi, then Pune City in next 25kms (check where you want to go in Pune to enter Pune at proper place).

It will take you approximately 2 and half hours to reach Pune @ 65-70kmph average speed. Overall distance is (ur place to Panvel+115km from Panvel) = 150km approx

The roads are extremely good.... mostly 4-lane roads. Just ride safe in the Khandala ghats.

I guess that sums it up best. Do post your starting point, i.e. from where you will be leaving like 'name of the suburb', etc. Also, where in Pune is your destination?

This route is perfect for new bikers wanting to try out touring in groups/solo. My first long ride was on this route. I even plan to take my better half to test her riding skills, once they are upto marks. As most of the roads are one ways, you can go comfortably. Only thing you need to be careful is, don't overtake any 'slowing' vehicles. chances are they are slowing for someone crossing the street, and you might hit them (personal experience).

From Thane, I take the ghatkopar route, coz my memories of the Airoli route are not good. You can ride till Ghatkopar on eastern express highway, take left to go to Vashi, and then carry forward as per the above plan.
