  • services done on first service!!!

ah....my bro who just bought a p150ug3(just before 1month..2009 bajaj was not released)...he has completed 140+ km on the odo..now he and his friends are planning a trip to anantagiri hills(ta and fro will cover 160+ km from hyd)........he is askin if he should get his bike serviced before the ride or after the ride,.... engine oil level is aliitle below half......so guyz whtz ur suggestion??

another thing.,what are the services done on first service?..i got my bike's first service last month..they just changed the oil and washed my bike, and when asked about the to-do list(mentioned 25 points) mentioned in the manual of the bike they said..itz just casual and ,and the bike is in stock condition ..so they will not check anything..damn i was just looking as a fool ..can't argue with them coz i have got no knowledge about this (not joined in this site at that time)

now my bro is asking....suggest as per your experience...and will they do the same thing even in the coming services???

@Shivanshu: He has mentioned that the bike has done 140+ kms as of now.

The first service is supposed to be done at 500-750 Kms or one month from the date of purchase whichever is earlier, so if he wants he can surely get the service done. But i dont see any problem in him getting the bike service after the ride, this will be a better option.

Bandhav--> if he is saying his brother has done 140+ on his bike only till now then I dont think that he should take it to hills at all isnt it?

Oh i missed the hill part, i feel that he should try avoiding such trip prior to proper running in.

There will be no probs... and a 160km is not that much distance.
the day i bought my FZ, i have done 280+km(to my home)... yesterday we came back after a 1100+km (3 days trip) and my bike is only two and half month old, done 5500+km...

I feel no probs for the bike... i have done the break-in of the engine with pretty good speed... i think it gives more pickup than my friends FZ(don't know others will agree)

break-in the engine by giving smooth and steady acceleration...

true and proper running would be when bike odo shows 1000+. Bandhav correct me if I am wrong..

ah...i forgot to mention......its name is anantagiri hills..and it is not a hilly area actually...it has got a pretty straight road..all the way..and the curves are really negligible.....almost like a high way.

^^The breaking-in is the key word here brother, even we are not saying that bike will fall apart after this small ride, but to ensure a healthy and strong engine in long run, he should better avoid this.

and he said he would be doing around 50-60 k/hr

                            Hi Caesar

You should get the motorcycle serviced now - or, if you dont want to do it now, at least get the engine oil changed. Ideally, it is recommended that the engine oil of a new motorcycle be changed after "mototuning" it, which involves a series of accelerations and decelerations done for all the gears. This (mototuning) is normally done as soons as possible after getting a new vehicle, and the oil is changed thereafter.

I assume that you have not mototuned your vehicle - no issues - just get the oil changed and you'll be taking good care of the motorcycle. As far as the running-in goes, please read the manual provided with your motorcycle - that will go a long way in ensuring a happy relationship with your vehicle. AFAIK, there shouldn't be any problem in ascending a gradient, but yes, prolonged stress on a new engine is not advisable.

                            Happy riding!
