  • Urgent Help! Bullet 500cc

    Hi,

I am buying a Bullet 500cc. I just found one in my city (Hyderabad). I looked everywhere.

The bullet is a 1998 model. The engine rings have been replaced. It has not been bored. The bore and piston are original. It looks very good. It has been chromed/nickel plated recently. The odometer has been reset. All the electricals work. It starts on the first kick. There is no unusual noise coming from the engine, but I haven't heard much bullets before this.

I have haggled the price down to 57,000/- (started at 70k). Is this a decent price? I could not locate any other 500cc to compare the price with.

I am taking a local mechanic (not a bullet mechanic) tomorrow to have a look at the bike. I will be paying for it tomorrow, if everything is ok. Is there something which I should be looking at?

Thanks for your time and advice

      Hi Kogu,

I'd really recommend you goto your nearest Bullet Showroom and talk to some mechanic there and see if you can get him to come and take a look at the bike, you may need to pay him a couple hundred bucks max and he may agree. Most of them are really nice people and will be very willing to help you out. This will save you a lot of money on the long run if you are serious about buying this bike.

With the description you have said, the bike is in a proper condition and the cost can still come down if possible at around 55K. It's unbelievable that you just got one 500cc in Hyderabad! If you wish to get to know the proper condition of this bike, take along a Bull mech who will guide you properly. Try and get some contacts with some Bull riders and their mechs and get one of their mechs to check the bike

Thanks Arnie and pushkar for your replies.

I looked everywhere, no 500cc around. The guy I am buying it from is a bullet mechanic. He was hiding in some corner, and I am glad I tracked him down. I went to his shop, and he had this 500cc under cover. Shiny. He guarantees that everything is ok, and that he will fix any problems encountered in the future.

My friends and I are all working hard to locate a bull mechanic, but considering the seller is a bull mechanic himself, I don't know how helpful that will be.

What would be really helpful is a checklist or general stuff I can look at. For eg. when in neutral if I dabbed on the accelerator, the rear tire would start moving slightly. Is that normal?

            I have an update.

Bought the bike. 56k. Took a decent 40km trip. Felt nice. It stopped while coming back and would not start. I kicked and kicked, but the engine didn't budge. Finally I went and fetched a mechanic. He started it in 1 kick. Turns out I had the kill switch engaged.

Feels good to finally own a bike. Bullet 500. My first bike.

AFAIK that is not normal. There is a slight clutch slippage in some bulls, wherein if the bikes in a gear, it'd try to move slightly ahead even with the clutch lever pulled in. But in nuetral, I really want to have it looke into !!
