hi guyz......just want to know if the colour of the bike fades ..in the prolonged run...i have black p180 most of the time it will be in college..so if there is no parking space..i will have to keep my bike..under sun.......

so does this make any difference to colour..i mean fading etc...

Yes it will. Sunlight is one of your bike's worst enemy... at least for its appearance. Not just paint, but plastic parts, reflectors/lenses, rubber parts, tyres, fuel efficiency, etc., will also suffer.

Using a cover is the next best thing to keeping it in shade. If this is not possible/practical, then all you can do apply and maintain a good protective coat with something like a UV filter. This will help... but only to some extent.

to add to that waxing & polishing regularly your bike really help

Polishing should not be done often. But if you maintain a coat of good wax (non abrasive) or a coat of something else like the new polymer based solutions which has UV filters, it will help protect the paint. These can be applied frequently. Formula 1 Shine It All, Waxpol's Protectol, etc. are examples of these products.

Simple - petrol evaporation!!

Yes, some shades of certain colours may fade faster. But all paints will be screwed in sunlight in the end.

Hey Ceasar,

The thing about paint is that it is susceptible to fade if the paint used is a gloss based single paint system.

If you remember the initial batch of Maruti cars that hit India. Yeah the small 800. Do you remember seeing them fade as they got older especially the red ones - the hood and the top. Well that is because they were painted using the 1K system, atleat i think so.
This type of system baked at a very high temperature, typically 265-285 degrees farenheight for about 20-30 minutes. The paint if i recall included the paint, hardner and clear mixed together to give it the gloss look. Unfortunately, the paint did not hold up very well against UV rays.

Todays paints are polyurethane based and can withstand the UV rays from the sun that promote fading. This system is called a 2k system. It is a 2 component clearcoat that is more of a chemical reaction and is accelerated by heat. The activation starts when the 2 components are mixed together in the spraygun, where they are blended perfectly, before the paint is atomized and sprayed onto the vehicles surface. This system is baked at lower temps, typically 140-165 degrees for about 30-40 minute.

Unfortunately, i am not sure what system Bajaj has used but you should be able to make out if there is a layer of clear over the paint. If there is, you can have the surface wet sanded by an expert and reclear the surfaces of your bike with 2 or 3 coats of clear to protect it from scratches. It will also give you a nice shine if the ratio of activator to clear has been used correctly.

Also, take a bike cover with you to keep the sun off.

p.s.
and when you feel the bike surfaces are not smooth but rough, use a decent creamy polymer based wax like armorall, formula 1 or turtle. Once a month polishing should be okay if you have used a good shampoo like Amways Car Wash. When a i shampoo my bikes, i dont even have to use wax. They dont see very dirty areas so they stay pretty much clean unless there is a severe dust storm.

will shampooing(sonax Car Wash) & waxing(turtle wax) once a week hurt the bikes's paint ?
