Default [Help]: Is it a good buy?

Hi Friends,

I want to buy a karizma bike (not a new one).
Got a quote like this.

Hero Honda Karizma 2006 model, yellow color, 2nd owner, 35000 kms at good condition is available for sale at Rs.42000

Saw the bike. it is in good condition.
What options i have to check in used karizma bike before buying it?

Let me know if this is a good buy.

cheers,

06 - with 35 k odo in 42 k is a bit expensive compared to the new price now being offered by the HH dealers. A price between 32-36k is worth.

the price of a new ZMA is 79k sumthing here too but i had earlier bought it for 86k when it was launched. 06 Zma should not cost 40k... the 06 model sells here for 32-40 k depending on the condition of the bike in KA & TN.

Try these:

*How's the paint quality like? You know, with the yellow color (and black too of course,) there is a chance it could have been repainted as well. If its repainted, I'd suggest you drop it because there's no saying what the bike might have undergone before it got that fresh coat of paint.
*Check the engine revving -- try to revv the engine to say 8-8.5K RPM and hold it steady there trying to listen for unusual sounds.
*Tyres! (both of course)
*Fairing for proper fixtures - It is essential that it doesn't vibrate (atleast not too much) when you're revving the engine hard or riding on a bumpy little road.
*Front Brake Disk - Hold it between your fore-finger and thumb and run this grip around the circumference of the disk. Try to feel for abnormal indentations/grooves etc.
*Gear Shifts - You know how to test these.
*Battery - Check a) Self-Starter b) Head/Tail-Lights & Indicators with engine not running.
*Check for visible oil leaks from the engine.
*Do a test run to gauge the FE. Not much you could expect from a 225CC bike, but then again it shouldn't be too unreasonably low.

**Re-count your options: Is this bike the ONLY choice you have? The market for 2nd hand bikes is very large and varied, and there could be many other excellent machines out there too (no, I'm not saying this one couldn't be one of them, I'm just giving you some food for thought), so make sure you're satisfied with the amount of research you've done in the market (atleast around where you live/intend to purchase the bike) before you jump in to a deal.

And that's just a brief list of checks that I could come up with for your query; surely there could be much more that added to it by those here willing to help you with it.

BTW, which city are you buying it from?
