I own a GS150R, and have long planned about getting HID Low beam on it. However, after reading the benefits of projectors, I have decided to retrofit a projector lamp on the bike and fit HID on it. I have managed to procure a projector from Skoda. (It has a half shield for cutoff).
I need help from experienced people here, and if someone is in Pune, then maybe they can help in person too. 1. The projector is for H3 bulbs, and bike uses H4. How are the connections made to HID? Is it HID bulb - HID socket - Ballast - Bike's socket - battery, or HID bulb - Bike's socket - Ballast - Battery? 2. If the HID bulb is connected to bike's socket, can I convert it from H4 to H3. 3. I am planning to retrofit the projector in actual headlamp. This will involve actual opening of the headlight assembly, and cutting it to fit the projector. There are numerous pages on internet where people have done this (search 'projector retrofit motorcycle' in google). Will it be worth it? 4. What's the cost I should expect for this project, considering I already have the projector? 5. Will this void my battery's warranty or whole warranty? (I guess only battery's warranty will be void, as it will be now a DC setup). Need help for this project! Also, if some GS owner can sell me his broken headlamp assembly, that would help a lot. |

How did you got this projector from the junk yard? even I am also looking for one. Does it have the HID bulb and the ballast? How much you paid for it. I found one but the guy was asking 3.5K for the whole assy, having the ballast, hopefully bulb also, not sure as its fully sealed with special allen bolts, a Laura RH side. Hope its worth for some one is not having an existing HID kit. In my case I on an H4 HID kit already, I want to make use of it atleast the ballast.
I have also heard that people are trying to retrofit with the scraped projectors, but mostly have givenup due to the lack of proper fitment and the bulb issues. Ofcourse the lenses will be from the junkyards and the reliabilty in functioning is a big issue. Retrofitting requires skills to open the sealed beam and putting it back to its original condition and knowledge to focus the beams and its should not spoil the original stock reflector fully. One thing you should keep in mind that once you retrofited this projector, you can not use the stock sealed beam for th stock bulb. Try to do it yourself with the help of a good mech or a good friend who can help in this and lets also know the progress. |

The bulb itself will not connect to the socket, rather the wiring will. So it can easily be modified. The problem is accommodating say a h4 bulb into h7 socket which is smaller compared to h4. No idea about h3. 3. It will only be worth, if it looks good. Because from my experience, I really don't feel that a projector can make world of difference in light intensity. It helps in cutting the glare for oncoming traffic though. And this is going to be a hit and trial method, unless somebody has specifically modified a GS150. 4. HID should not be more tan 3.5K, plus your tools and other misc stuff should not cost a bomb! 5. If you cut any of the wiring in your bike, your warranty is gone. That includes all the electrical stuff. Battery warranty will be void, but it's just one year, I assume there's not much of warranty left either!

I saw a few bikes fitted with HIDs, but the glare was just too much for others, and the light was not that great as well. Maybe because they may have been using higher Kelvin bulbs, and not <5000k. However, the projector HIDs in cars look damn awesome, with their spread as well as cool to look nature. That's why I am thinking of retrofitting the projector to the headlight. Another option is to fit the lamp as auxilliary on LHS crash guard. But that way, some of the light will be gone permenantly by the bike's tyre, and also, fitting it and keeping it safe is going to be problamatic. H3 HIDs are available, so if I put the projector inside the headlight, I'll have to buy H3 HIDs only. Only thing is I'll have to modify the connectors so that it connects to H4 socket of the bike. My plan of action is 1. Find a used/scratched headlight of GS150R to experiment on (cost around 100-200, new one costs Rs.800) 2. Retrofit the projector inside the headlight seal. (cost ~100Rs, including the cost of silicon gel to reseal) 3. Fit the H3 HID to the modified headlight. (cost around 3500rs) I will keep the community updated about the progress. First step is taking too much time ![]() One more question is, which HID to buy, normal or Bi-Xenon with both Upper and lower lights? Because once the projector is fitted, the bike lamp is gone, so no more upper beam by the headlamp. Quote:

I meant that as the projector will take place of the bulb socket in headlight seal, the only light source will be whatever I put inside that projector. It takes H3 bulbs.
If I put single beam HID, then no more upper beam. If I put bi-xenon H3 HID, then there will be upper beam, but need advice whether bi-xenons are reliable. |

So you need to either mask the stock reflector with some acrylic sheet or remove the reflector fully to bring out the real angel eye show off. ![]() I am planning to fit projectors on my Unicorn. 1. I have got hold of a Benz Projector (Holds D2S) but my projector is low beam type i.e it has a shield inbetween. 2. I have got hold of Skoda Projector which holds H3 Bulb. So my plan is like - Put the Benz Projector for High beam (i ve chipped the shield in it )and Skoda's for Low beam. Now my question is - AFAIK D2S is a Bi-Xenon or will i get it for High Beam alone or Low Beam alone. What will be the price of D2S HiD 4200k? - How much will a H3 HiD 4200k cost? Well afaik H3's are single filament bulb but the projector's shield should play the role of high and low beam. Which is not the case in the projector which you have.!!
