Default Few questions about Unicorn. Need help.

I’ve posted it on ownership thread but yet don’t get any reply so here I go again.

I've Unicorn few days ago. In here Bangladesh, there aren't any authorized service centers by Honda. So I have to do all maintains things myself with local garage. So I'm little bit confuse about some point which is indicate at manual. Here are they:

1. Engine Oil Centrifugal Filter: Clean.
2. Engine Oil Strainer Screen: Clean.

These two things I can't understand . Where should I find the Centrifugal Filter and what is the Strainer Screen? Is Centrifugal filter inside in clutch side of engine? Is it necessary to open clutch side cover to clean the filter when it requires (I've done 180 km and will do first service at 750 km). Local mechanic said to me that, we shouldn't open the clutch side until it is necessary and no need to clean the filter if it is in inside.

Should I kick few times before start the engine at morning? Some people told that, it will help to circulate oil.

After drive a while when engine become hot, there is a little tak tak (not from tappet) sound when it is on idle rpm and not moving. Is it normal to unicorn? I had unicorn before but I can't remember these types of sound, so confuse . The same sound also comes from my friend's 3 days old Hunk.

Should I change the engine oil before 750 km? Which grades handle the engine smoothly? Thanks in advance.

1. That's pretty bad how are bikes sold w/o after sales svc support ?
2 & 3. I had lenghty chat with real people who do cleaning (Hero Honda mechanics) about cleaning of these two. What I concluded from their explanation is the strainer screen traps heavy particles (tiny metalic shavings) and the centrifugal normally traps lighter particles (material of friction cluch plates), according to them / their experience best time to clean these two is at the time of clutch plate replacement. They said even at that point of time i.e. 25-35K kms there's hardly any deposits in either of the two filters. To prove their point they showed me an Xtreme whose clutch plates were changed right in front me, both strainer / centrifugal filter had no visible deposits on them. After this they asked me whether they should open up mine (Achiever) w/o any hesitation I said YES, I found NO entrapment in either of these, it was clean.

I am not saying don't worry, but you get lot of satisfaction if it's done, local mechanic can also do it, just be beside him while he works on this. No harm, no gasket cutting, same gasket can be re-used 3 times. So you decide.

4. to clean both, the right hand side cover has to be removed after draining the oil, there is a small circular plate like just beside clutch bell (or cover) the plate or cover is fastened by three screws (star screws), you need to remove them and check. No changes to engine will take place this can be done by fairly experienced mechanic who has right tools.

5. There's nothing wrong in kicking few times after a long rest. I recommend it.

6. This tak tak comes after engine is switched off after a drive, this is due to metal cooling, the catalytic converter has some special metals inside which expand and contract at lower temperatures compared to steel, upon colling this tak-tak sound comes....

7. Yes, change it, put 20W40 HMSI recommended.

@vipin_s: Many Many thanks man.

1: The company “Atlas Bangladesh Ltd.” Authorized importer, assembler and distributor of Honda and Hero-Honda’s bikes from India, Pakistan and Japan in Bangladesh. The main problem is the company’s 51% share own by Government of Bangladesh and also run by them. Their all workers of Atlas behavior like other government officers. They don’t even bother to talk normally to customer. Yes they have one service center in “Tezgaon” area in Dhaka but due to their attitude and service; no one go there.
Here is my experienced with them: My Hero Honda CBZxtreme had Mobil leak from neutral switch. So I went to them and claim warranty. The duty officer told me write an application, if Atlas approve my application then they alter the switch, and takes minimum 7/8 working day. I told him what should I do with these days? After hear this question; he just become angry with me without any cause and behaves like as usual govt. officer. Then I told him ok fine I don’t need the warranty, replace it and I’ll pay the money as bill come. Then he said he hasn’t the neutral switch I have to wait till it imports from India. I was sure that he has that but for arguing with him, he act like that.
And now they have new rules; if you buy from any dealer (even authorized by Atlas) then you have to get service from the dealer, normally dealer haven’t well equipments and expert labor because their main intention to sell the bike not service them, so going to them typically another disaster. But the main funny matter is Atlas doesn’t sell the bike directly to customer. So at the end of story we don’t have any service center authorized by Honda or Hero-Honda.

Moral of story Bangladesh is Hell for Bikers, even here more than 150cc bikes aren’t allowed. And we have to pay triple price of origin. Unicorn price is 1,51,000tk which equal to $2160US and registration fee is 16,500tk which is equal to $236US.

2, 3, and 4: Thanks to clear me about Centrifugal filer and Strainer screen. I think I should clean these after 5/6K, not necessary to open now.

5: I should use to with that before start the engine at morning.

6: Little continuous tak tak sound not come after engine is switch off. Its come when engine is on and after a long drive that enough cause to engine become hot and only hearable when engine in idle rpm. I and my friend bought two bikes in 1 day difference and both bike have same sound after long ride. Mine is Unicorn and he has Hunk. Hope it’ll gone after 2/3K km when engine become fully set.

7: In Bangladesh 20W50 and 10W30 are available to all stores. So maybe it’ll little hard to find 20W40. Should I use synthetic Mobil or natural Mobil in initial period?
