guys i have been using my karizma R for more than a year now and it has done over 22000 kms. i have toured a lot and found that the HH oil is not as good for continuous high speed touring (over 100 km/hr) for hours at a stretch with out any breaks in between. the oil seems to do well during night riding stints, but during the day due to the heat i can feel the engine getting strained and the engine feeling coarse and harsh as the engine oil is losing its viscosity

i change the engine oil completely every 2000-2500 kms when i give my bike for servicing, till now the bike is completely stock and have been giving my bike for servicing only at the HH service centre. the bike is still under warranty.

i want to know which fully synthetic oil is the best for my karizma r?

i presume there is no fully synthetic oil in the market with 10w30 (sj grade JASOMA) rating. i recently saw on the net that castrol and amsoil have 10w30 fully synthetic oil for bikes but these oils are only available in UK.

can any of you guys suggest me if there is any fully synthetic 10w30 sj grade oil available in india?

is buying imported oils a good idea? if so does anybody know someone in chennai who can provide me with the details and contacts of the person/shop who can import the amsoil or castrol or other 10w30 engine oils?

or is it wise to use engine oils available in the indian market even though the oil grading may be different?

i want to know if i use any fully synthetic engine oil with a different rating and grading will my engine suffer damage?

i am planning a trip from chennai to darjeeling on my karizma r in the month of november so need to carry a couple of bottles of engine oil with me. i will try to get my bike serviced in calcutta from a HH service centre but i will be using the engine oil i carry with me.

i always felt that synthetic oils give better performance under prolonged high speed touring.

so the gyan gurus of Xbhp please pitch in with your suggestions, recommendations, comments and any advice that would help me out of my dilemma.

Synthetic oils make the Zma gear shift go hard, and engine growls too.

Out of all, I will give a thumbs up to Motul 300v w40 (not W50) oil.

Obviously you haven't gone thru the oil/Karizma threads.

Firstly, Zma users on this forum seem to find HH oil to be best for Zma. This stands only for the HH oil made by Idemitsu... or at best by Tide Water. Don't use BPCL's oil.

Which oil have you been using till date? The ONLY way to make sure what goes into your bike is to pour it from a sealed bottle in front of you.

Till date, there is no 10W30 fully synth bike oil in India. I suggest you bug Motul to import this grade (full or semi synthetic) If you can import stuff yourself, there can be no harm in trying a bike oil of the same grade. The nearest grade available is Motul 5W40. Whether you want to use oil which is not of the recommended grade is upto you... the possible ill effects of doing so will only be apparent in time.

True that HH oils have been pretty much satisfactory on their bikes. I am not sure about ZMA but I am using Motul 300v 5w40 on my CBZ Xtreme, There is not considerable increase in smoothness at lower RPMs but noticable difference at higher RPMs, But does not appeared to be coarsed or strained. Gear shift is slicker and smooth when compared to HH oils.

I guess you can give a try with 300v 5w40. Else switch back to HH oils.

I have this feeling that the Motul 300V Factory line will do wonders. But the price of almost 750 bucks is what makes me skeptical.
I am currently using the Petronas Sprinta fully synth on my 2005 ZMA( please note here: the oil grade for MY ZMA is 10W40 I assume). I would say it is pretty good. Albeit my ZMA has her own share of woes now. ( Engine overheats to a very high temperature, clutch plates worn out). I am waiting to get these glitches fixed in a week or two and then see how the petronas ( ~400 bucks) works for me.
I even wanna try out the Idemitsu oil (170 bucks) because of the amount of satisfaction I have seen by most of the ZMa users on the ZMA thread.

PS: MODS., why cant this thread be moved& merged with the Karizma thread?

Here is my share of confusion about engine oil change.
My karizma is 6 months & 5100 kms old. Service is due at 5500 kms.

Till now I have done 2 long rides, 700 kms & 1300 kms so far.
I daily commute to my office (bengaluru) on my bike in a bad traffic.

My experience so far.
1. Hard gear shifting at times (city traffic)
2. Engine over heating (city traffic as well as high speed cruisings)

When I say city traffic, I use clutch a lot since I have to change gears frequently.
I asked service center engineer & he said, more clutch usage will over heat engine.

Then, somewhere in xBhp I read, FS oils solve these problems to a great extent.
So, here again I put some questions which are prowling in my mind.

1. Since I was using HH mineral oil, can I switch to FS oil directly or I have to use SS first (consider mileage of my bike, 5100 kms)
2. If I change from mineral to SS/FS, is there any kind of cleaning needed? I read somewhere that I need to use some kind of cleaner to clean engine internals from mineral oil remains, also diesel/petrol is strict no for such use.
3. I wish to stick to 10W30 grading, so any SS or FS with that grade?
4. Karizma & Karizma R share same specification but engine oil grade. Why is that so? Karizma says 10W40 but Karizma R says 10W30. I am .

Could be because of the R&D which happened over the years.

I've been using Petronas Sprinta FS for a while now and i'm pretty happy with what I get for 300 bucks.
