  • Need a bike 100-125cc within 50k

Hi, I need a bike with the following requirements
    • Should be the best VFM in its segment.
    • Daily travel of around 25+ km, so mileage is of importance along with the riding comfort. Occasional outing on weekends.
    • Should be mostly on highway, so might need the 5th gear, but not so sure...
    • Looks doesn’t matter much, as far as bike doesn’t look bland, should be decent enough
    • Don’t want to spend beyond 50k (OTR in Mumbai), would have settled down with the 2nd hand bike, but let it be – will go for a new one.
    • Power / cc: any from 100–125cc (if possible), which suits my needs.
    • My stat: 180cms/ 70kg
    • No HH please, no personal grudge, just don’t like them.

I’m a complete noob in the biking world, don’t have much idea about the engine fineness, gearbox smoothness, just know the basics mileage, cc stuff. So consider this one as my first bike. I’m a very conservative rider so I feel I can maintain it very well hence maintenance is secondary. So far I was riding my friend’s RX100, it was surely a pleasure but was bit heavy on my pocket with mileage of around 20-25kmpl, hence this quest.

Last week, TR Discover DST-Si, but I’m not able to make out anything as there was heavy chaos on the road. I’ll again go for the TR this weekend. My research so far looking at the various sources,

    1: Bajaj Discover DTS-Si
    (+) 5 gears, High mileage
(-) Only 94cc, No disc, Bajaj name, Skinny tires

    2: TVS Star City 110
(+) Got this one from xBhp thread
    (-) No 5th gear, TVS A.S.S.

    3: Suzuki Zeus
(+) 5 gears, 125cc, Disc, MRF tires (not sure if it’s a plus)
    (-) Underpowered considering 125cc, Suzuki A.S.S., 52k OTR Mumbai

    4: Bajaj XCD 135 DTS-Si
(+) Again 5 gears, 135 cc, Disc, bit better in looks
(-) Bit over budget, Mileage comparing it with Discover

    Added:
    5: Yamaha Gladiator
(+) 5 gears, Yamaha, all praise from different forums/persons
    (-) Mileage, Maintenance, Yamaha A.S.S.

Go for 'ZEUS' else if you want to save some hard cash get it's sibling 'HEAT'. HEAT OTR is about 4-5K lesser than Splendor and good 'VFM' buy.

Barring the budget factor, you will get everything in this bike. From the reviews on the net and a few bike mags, the XCD135 seems to be a capable tool for city commute including highways occasionally.

It looks good as well though you are not worried about the looks.

It has an option of disc brake and also fat rear tires by econo-commuter segment standards. It will aid in handling and safety factor for the bike.

If you can stretch your budget a bit then this would be a very good buy.

TVS Star City 110 also has some favorable views so you can think about it. Though it does not have a 5th gear, it should be a potent city steed.

At the end of the day, since you would be riding this bike for nearly 50-60kms, better have detailed TR of all your shortlisted bikes and see which you feel more comfortable with and then choose it. Happy hunting!!

Zeus is somewhat underpowered, that's what i have heard so far. Not sure it would be the VFM or not. TD of an year old Zeus was okay.

Yeah, me too wanted it, but it's bit over my budget. Anyway if it turns out to be an ultimate winner, will go for it, with a stretched budget.

How good is the mileage for XCD comparing to Discover 100cc and engine smoothness, are they same?

Young Man, i have been using a 125cc segment from past 4years and have tried and tested almost all bikes in that segment, and comparing them with my own Bajaj Discover.
Galdiator Wins in all the segments, C_SBK also choosed Yamaha Gladiator instead of Discover,Stunner,Zeus, and Shine etcetra etcetra!~!

Be whatever be your criteria. Say for ex:
                Mileage
                Comfortablity.
Stress on vehicle on high speeds.
                Leaning & Bending!
                Stunting
                City Riding!!!
                After Sales Service
                Spares!

                Cheers

I have honda shine at my hometown.
Very smooth and excellent pick up . you wont believe it can touch 110 kmph
average around 50 kmpl .I can share more details if you want.

Another option can be yamaha gladiator .

                        pick from

                        Gladiator
Star City 110 (even with one gear less it pulls better and smoother than the Disco 100 and gives almost same mileage)

                        or
                        Zeus

Zeus is not underpowered. It feels so. It is very smooth and you can ride it ad 30KMPH in 5th gear without a jerk or knocking. You revv the engine to over 4000 RPM and power kicks in like anything. At lower RPM's it feels like underpowered 125CC mostly for the way it pulls and at higher RPM's it pulls very strong. Absolutely no nonsense engine.

But for your height the Zeus might not be comfortable for riding for more than 30 mins. This is a practical problem we found with this bike with that mini step on the seat making the bum very uncomfortable.

Go for the gladiator. Take a Test ride and see whether it is comfortable for you. If not, you can look for other options such as XCD 135, star city, disco.

Okay, i have decided to go for only 5 gears one. So, I'm left with Gladi & XCD 135, on top of my mind, followed by Zeus.

No to Stunner, as i feel it won't be a real VFM...

Should i also consider Discover DTS-Si looking at the VFM quotient?

From the above mentioned bikes, Gladiator would be the best bet!!
