  • [Photo Feature]: Presenting the RR700 Prostreet Turbo: Vote for the Ultimate Bullet Mod Job

    Fellow XBHPians,

After over a year of effort, it gives me great pride to present before you the RR700 Prostreet Turbo. The bike is now almost ready, and I think is India's (if not the worlds's) first turbo charged single cylinder custom bike using the antiquated Royal Enfield powerplant. The bike is the result of more than a year of hard work by its creator and conceptualiser, Ranjit Randhawa a gentleman farmer based in Kharar near Punjab. Ranjit is in my mind, one of the finest automotive brains in the country and the RR700 Prostreet is his finest creation till date.

I have entered my motorcycle in the RE Rider Mania Custom bike competition and intend to ride it to Goa for the Rider Mania taking place this month. As opposed to mostly cosmetic / visual changes, this bike sports extensive modifications to the power plant as well as the visual appearance of the motorcycle. A true custom with both custom made internals and externals.

I need your support and endorsement. Please go to the following link ( Rider Mania 2009: Goa, India | Meet bikers from across the country at Royal Enfield Rider Mania ) and cast your vote for the RR700 Prostreet Turbo. I am quite behind some of the other bikes on the Leaderboard as I entered my bike only 3-4 days ago. I now need the overwhelming support of the large XBHP community to close the gap.

The bike handles like a dream and performance is DEADLY. We estimate BHP output to above 40bhp and an exponential increase in the tourque. I kid you not, the bike does wheel spins in second gear when the throttle is yanked. I guess I can give more objective data when the bike is tested by an auto mag.

I am attaching a few bike pictures. The mods made to the bike are too many. However, a brief list of the bike specs and mods is enclosed. Once again I request you to cast your vote to help my bike climb up the leaderboard here (Rider Mania 2009: Goa, India | Meet bikers from across the country at Royal Enfield Rider Mania

A very well designed chopper, though i wouldve wanted to plonk this into the normal chassis and see what the bike can do!!!

COngrats, and best of luck! ill be posting my vote soon!

i wish somebody atleast in this country took a new route and built a fast cafe racer types or a proper racer based on the bullet. Every tom, dick, harry and his uncle builds a chopper. Since this bike is meant to perform, with a rake and trial like this, it wont handle good enough to justify that engine.

@aalop143, considered custom chrome but could not get the right vendor to do it n Chandigarh area. The engine casings are aluminium and the trick is to get a sustainable chrome job that will be maintenance friendly and will not peel off in a year or so. Moreover, I live by the sea (Mumbai) where because of the high salt content, air is very corrosive. As of now, the engine sports a gun metal look wherein, we scrubbed the casings clean with a very tough wirebrush / sandpaper and then laquered it. More maintenance friendly.

@ Joel, To be honest have not yet measured the boost accurately as we do not have the requisite tools for it. It will vary across the power band depending on the volume of exhaust gases. Peak boost has been limited to 5psi by means of a blow off valve. Other than that, set up is a suck through type, with the turbo housed between the engine intake and the carb. Turbo used is, as I mentioned, the IHI RB31 with some home made plumbing. Timing was a bit retarded to compensate for the increased pressure in the cylinder.

@jd666, Thats right, its the suck through set up. We do not have an rpm meter as yet so cannot give you an accurate answer. But my sense is that the turbo kicks in at around 3,500rpm...which given that the bullet engine revs upto only 5-5,500 rpm presents a problem of turbo lag. Its is quite pronounced in the this bike because of the siingle cylinder set up.

When we were dialing up the turbo set up, we consulted with a lot of bike tuners based in the UK and UK, the consensus of which was that the turbo set up on a single cylinder bike using the Bullets antiquated power plant would not be satisfactory. Well, they were right, Ranjit and I are not satisfied because of the turbo lag. So the next phase of the project will be to remove the turbo and super charge the bike. I have already got hold of the Aisin AMR500 super charger (thanks to ebay) and hope to have the super charged version out by the summer. I plan to enjoy the winter riding season on the current set up and ship the bike to Chandigarh before the monsoons.

@ Joel, welcome your opinions on the cafe racers...wish someone would build them. I personally, don't like them so much as I find the riding ergonomics not friendly for long rides. My requirement was to have a bike that would be really comfortable on long rides, handle corners and bends well, and at the same time be useable in Mumbai's traffic conditions. The ergonomics and seating position of this bike were tailormade for me, my height and reach etc...and I am quite happy with it. I took it on a trial spin from Chandigarh to Kasauli and to my mind, it handles pretty well (better than my old Vmax). The engine is only 40 odd horses...which is not much really. My previous two bikes were both 140bhp plus...The turning radius of the RR700 is marginally more than that of the stock bullet and not at all like that of some long rake cruisers, which need two lanes to turn.
