  • Is it Ok to listen music while riding on a bike

    Hi..!

well this may sound very obvious though ..! thats its not Ok..!
but still I want to know..whats the harm if i do so in low volume..!

Experienced bikers..! wd u strictly say NOto this question..?
I mean given the fact that I am a safe rider..I hardly get past 70 KMPH in my daily commute...!I feel very tempted to plug in my earphones and listen to some good music and enjoy my ride..

    what wd u say..?

I DO it and its not safe... continous playback of a sound can lead to you going deaf... distraction of any type would still be risky na!

PS: Low speed does not necessarily indicate safety.... and it need not be you

Well. Legally - NOT Ok, if that scares you .

I used to listen to music while riding until one day when I turned on my MP3 player, with the same muic volume (while I was riding), and put the earphones while in my office (which is a quite environment) and I was taken aback literally on the volume I was hearing. From that day, I stoped listening to music while riding. To hear the music clear you tend to increase the volume, on road, unknowingly affecting your ears !!

Problem is we use earphones while riding and that poses more stress to ears. Doctors advice even not to use headphones (Stereo) for long durations.

If cops can't find any reason to get something from you, they can charge you for listening music while driving/riding .

O.T: Avoid using earphones (in- ear) as much as possible. Around-ear types are better off.

Temptated mind or plugged in music, either way it only divertes the mind. Just check that which diverts you more, temptation or music.
But in my case whenever am on bike or in car or anything moving, I plug in my earbudy and listen to few soothing tracks or few soft pop on low volume(volume upto 30-40% is perfect). So that I am always aware of my surrounding!
On personal note, music helps me to cut out the boredom, sooth my mind and keep me concentrated on road and surroundings. If its same with you, then no doubt plug in ur favo chart no.s right now.

Well, what exactly are we talking about here?

Are we talking about the safety or the legal aspect of this.

Listening to anything on two wheelers is illegal, unless its your girl friend shouting in your ear! LOL

As for the safety, it depends how much you are comfortable with. I would prefer putting one ear phone in my left ear and putting the volume at half while going for long rides. It makes me feel less stressed out and more relaxed, but I still wont recommend it to others. See your own comfort level.

as for you getting a ticket, if the traffic warden is hell bent in giving you a ticket, then he can challan you for using hands-free while riding which is an offense.

It is not a very advisable thing to listen to music if you are the ones who gets carried away with music, else if you think you are sane enough, go ahead mate...Buy that MP3 player and plug in.

                all cheers

mixed feelings dude....cause i fear someday i will go deaf but cant go out without music cause thats the only thing which keeps me from pulling my hair while stuck in traffic or slow movement...i use rear view mirrors everytime when i brake or stop.but problem arises when the guy behind honks at you and you dont budge cause your ears are sealed.so low volume is important while on city roads.and if he flashes his beams at me i can notice in my rear mirror..but on highways its vice versa.and whatever said and done i just cant complete 600 to 700 kms just listening to the sound of the wind or my engine..
also somehow i am able to concentrate more on the road if am listening to music.the rythm controls my throttle and if its a fast song i feel like ripping off but i control myself and fortunately my senses become sharper...sounds like crap to others but thats how i feel

I don't think it is a good idea to listen to music while riding, especially if you're a Heavy Metal fan. I've tried it before and i've felt that it affects my riding significantly. I used to turn up the volume quite high to cancel the traffic noise and as a result, couldn't hear the honks of vehicles behind me, particularly those of other bikers. Fortunately, i've never had any accidents while listening to music or otherwise i would never suggest anyone to listen to music and ride, although some people do it. And yes, if the music was fast-paced, i always felt like gunning the throttle. Not too good within the city! No more music listening while riding for me!
Right now, 11 Bhp at 7500 Rpm.

I strongly feel that it is not safe to listen to music while riding..!
but i do it all the time..!
and i am not proud of it..but still..i am unable to resist it..!
i need earphones in my ear if i am riding for more than 10 kms. its become like an addiction..i cant do without it..!
and its not just while riding..i need music while doing a lot of other stuff too..hell these days..i cant go to sleep without having listened to some music..!
i fact 5 years back..i used to listen to music when i used ride my bicycles to tutions.

but at the end of the day i think it is unsafe...!
(but on a personal note..ive never had any problems so far..!)

It completely depends upon the person. Some people can ride well with earphones, whilst some peopl cant. Try using them, and if u are able to ride with full concentration, i see no point in not wearing. And about the deafness thing. You wont go deaf my using earphones. You shouldnt use high volume thats all. I just read this on yahoo few weeks back.
It's not what you ride, it's your attitude that counts.
