  • yamaha fazer 150 or bajaj pulsar 220dtsi

hey guys....this is my 1st post since i joined the forum...i am looking forward to get a new bike. my choices are yamaha fazer 150 and bajaj pulsar 220dtsi.

i want to know whether it would be nice if get a pulsar 220 because i've seen many people write that pulsars have a lot of problems after a period of time.
And also i wanted to know its mileage in city since my daily commute will be around 35-40 kms.

Another doubt that i have is that if i go for the fazer, which i personally think is a great bike, will it cheat me on mileage ? Cause i heard that it gives around 25-30 km/lt. of mileage which kinda sucks cause after shelling out 70k+ for a 150cc bike i would at least want a bike with a decent mileage !!!

when it comes to Performance P220 smokes the FAZER.
when it comes to Mileage P200 should smoke the FAZER again.
FZ/FAZER gets around 35km/l if its tuned for performance, you can get 40-45-50 but it will feel more like a 10bhp ride!

FAZER is way overpriced,id suggest the P220,P220 does have some issues, which the owners will hopefully pt. out but then no bike is perfect.

      go for the P220.
      Smoke rubber,not tobacco.

Both bikes give mileage around 35-40 .mileage largely depends on one's riding style .
though both bikes are similar in price the Pulsar220 is more VFM . go for it !

Your choices are based on pricing i presume

Any motorcycle whether by any manufacturer won't throw any tantrums, if it serviced properly and taken good care

you will spend 50 bucks(with petrol prices as on 14/02/'10) everyday on fuel on both motorcycles you have chosen

Another doubt that i have is that if i go for the fazer, which i personally think is a great bike, will it cheat me on mileage ? A fazer should give you equivalent to what a P-220 will give on mileage front,

performance wise they are quite apart,

          Advantages of a P-220 is--
          very good power,
          creamy spread of torque
          terrific head-lamps

          Disadvantages--
you might have to face niggling problems now and then, but i presume that is it

          Advantages of FZ/Fazer--
          Awesome brakes
          Good handling
          good finish and quality
          good looks(subjective)

          Disadvantages--
Power and performance compared to a P-220
low FE, it being a 150cc

I have tried to sum up what i think of both motorcycles and P-220 makes a good buy if you want thrilling performance
and if you are ready to compromise a wee bit on performance front, the FZ is a better bet

          Happy Buying

As Ranjith has rightly pointed out,
Fazer will give you almost equal FE as compared to a 220 DTS-i if not less but then compare the fact that one is a 21PS bike and other a 14PS bike.
I found the Fazer underpowered but you may not if your riding style is different( but still it lacks some necessary bhp's)

The 220 has some issues related to it but then which bike is perfect, just a fact that 220 has more issues compared to other bikes. I dont find Fazer a good VFM, why dont you try FZ16 or FZ S?

Just TD both bikes and try to feel which bike is better. I get 34-35km/l with my 220 in city with a lot of ripping, when i rade sanely it instantly touches 39-40 kmpl.

well..P220 will undoubtedly be the best VFM..!
i had ridden the FAZER some time back..and i was not impressed by its power..!
if u are looking for power..go for the P220

P220 is a good bike considering it is an alround package. Compared to Yamaha Fazer which is like a show off package.
According to me as the time passes people dont think how reliable is their machine but how it performs against others. Similar OTR price similar FE and a hell lot of diff in performance P220 anyday.
I am actually a Yamaha fan, But what can you say when Yamaha Does a Hero Honda.
Never upgrade without getting your basics RIGHT.

i guess the summation has already been done for the two bikes.. P220 for the best bang for the buck.. and fazer for the looks and the flaunting

The Pulsar 220 F any day over a fazer ....

what will you do with looks say after 1 year ....huh ? your bike should have power to compete with the upcoming bikes ....
why rx is still remembered .....??

bottom line is no bike is perfect in this indian market....
and if you are unlucky then you can face these kind of small issues in a fazer also ....
so i would say all the best ...

                      choose wisely ...

the p220 is absolute value for money but all pulsar look the same only a thing here and their differentiates all the line up except p135...
as for looks refinement fazer is one of the best. but its power that you want go for p220.. as for average it really depends on your style

Looks are something you will get over in 1 month.. the power is something which will keep you interested for a long long time.. its the power you have to live with..

Apart from the looks, a functional rear view mirror and the tractor rear tyre, a Fazer has nothing to offer over a P220.. and for something selling at the same price, the P220 offers you 'best in indian motorcycles' 55W projector headlamps, rear disc brakes, 1.5 times the power, incredible highway stability (against crosswinds) at any speeds (comparable to a RE), and incredible FE for a 220 cc machine (even if you ride semi-sanely). A fazer can never live up to its name "Touring Spirit" if it has just 14bhp on offer, compared to Fazer, a P220 would be the king of any highway.

My philosophy while taking to the highway is, that if you happen to be riding on the highway, you should be able to easily tail the biggies on the road i.e. the Xylos/Innovas/Safaris/Scorpios/Fortuners without the bike breaking a sweat. If you can do that, then and only then, you are worthy enough to stay on the highway. If you cant do that, you buddy, are better off in a car/bus/train instead. My personal experience says, none of these aforementioned "Hyper Tourers"(Cars) have been successful in getting me of their tail , which frankly, makes mile munching a breeze..

A P220 is a totally VFM product for which a Fazer is no match, if you really want to stick with the FZ series, i would seriously recommend FZ-16 / FZ-S instead, at least you will end up saving a bit of money buying them.

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Not to mention Projectors....Which comes free in P220..... If you want to install it on Fazer another 5-7 thousands........
Still Playing in 13.5 bhp @ 8500 rpm

                              Absolutely true.
14 BHP is not enough... just go highways and you can realize.

Instead of keeping yourself on the tail of biggies try to push them back and fly a zigzag...

FZ is better go considering the prize to FAZOR but aerodynamics is a matter. Then Fazor scores over fz.
