  • Super confused about my first bike...please help

Hi people...I need a bike for daily commute of about 35 kms to college...have got a budget of around 1.1 lakhs...
    Requirements:
    1.Mileage
    2.Less maintainance
    3.Looks

    i have narrowed down to:

1.ZMA---proven choice but too much of a waiting period

2.Pulsar 220---good looks, but no exclusivity factor...almost every other person seems to own a pulsar

3.RE Thunderbird---my personal favorite but then i heard it has maintainance issues

Please suggest any other bikes if i have missed out on any other good ones.

PS...i have to decide on this bike issue in 2-3 days...so please help me out QUICKLY...

My suggestion to you would be the classic 500 that is if you could increse your budget by a wee bit more. With the uce engine its a lot more reliable. The torque is earth shattering. Going by the reviews it cruises easily at 115-120.

The ZMR for all its techno gadgetry is still the same underpowered engine. Extremely reliable but underpowered and it looks like a cheap aftremarket mod job to me atleast. But is ( presuming it is) a good very comfortable tourer.

The 220 - if you can look beyond the exclusivity factor, its a great bike to own though with its share of niggles. To be honest is exclusivity more importatnt than having a good machine??

I would suggest the r15 to you as well, very reliable engine, out of the world handling great package all in all.But like i mentioned at the begining the one bike which fits all your requirements is the classic 500
        respect ma authoritae!!

R15/ZMR is the best but it requires high maintenance I would have picked up.. Get the Apache 220 which is soon to be launched..

Hey man, what exactly do you want?
Do you want by the twist of your wrist to lose everyone behind? Then get the P220
Do you want great reliability and quite good looks? Then just go and get a Karizma
Do you want a bike which can compete against 200+cc bikes? Then get the R15
According to me, with a 1.1L budget, get a P220 and mod it, meaning more power and even better looks for that exclusivity that you want, thats what i would do.

why is no one talking about the thunderbird??

ZMA---did a test ride...it is a reliable machine no doubt...but at the end of the day it is just another mod of karizma r...(i feel)...besides it has a huge waiting period.they don't even have a display model in Vizag..

and exclusivity...well not really an issue but then the greed creeps in!!!

                      GO!!!!!!!!!!!

                      Hey buddy,
Seems like you have a good budget to afford an R15, get it man. it's an owesome machine.. You will love it above 6000 RPM, it's a rocket.. after the 6000 RPM range.. it will take care of you through the corners... Also you will have the exclusivity factor too..I believe still people will look at an R15 when seen from front beliveing it as a baby R1.. Go for it it won't disappoint you...

i think buying the old zma r or zmr its nt a big diff as its the same old machine so instead of putting a lac rupees for a modified zma-r you can take a look at r-15.

Regarding Thunder Bird, if you can get the old thunder bird with old cast iron engine its good but the company doesnt sell it anymore so you have to look out for some resale, my friends who have purchased the thunderbird 3 years back without twin spark one has average maintenance of 5000/+ per month and engine over hauling is very common in re occuring as the aluminium engine has lot of issues.

i dont think a well maintained T-bird requires 5000 + per month. I have the older AVL engine, and if you are getting it serviced properly every 3000 kms, you just need to worry about filling air in the tyres and checking the chain tension every 1000 kms.

@OP - The T-bird, in the UCE configuration is a very refined bike, complete with electric start and disc brakes. I feel because of the riding stance on the bike, its very comfortable ( atleast in the current range of bullets ). Other option in the same would be the Classic 350 which is a few k more expensive.

One factor to be looked at is that all these bikes have a usage life of max 10 years. The RE, if maintained well, will last long... really long ( like amaron!! hehe )

                            - Yamaha RXZ 5 speed
