My personal suggestion to you would be to check the papers of the said bike(s) even before you TOUCH them!

@Furian : Take the bike regn/engine/chasis no. to DRI and check their records of the bikes have been cleared by them. Then only think about buying these bikes.

Firstly, 600RR is Not a litre class.

Find out whether the R1 has been bought off the shelf in India.

I would say avoid the 600 and the gixxer since neither of them have been released in India and it would be tough for you to find out if the bike is clean. If you know how to read the papers (of the bike), then go ahead and check them.

Nice idea, but the DRI won't tell you anything!

@Furian : not all legal bikes have a clearance from dri, be very careful when checking the papers, quite a few are forged. it is highly unlikely that a legal 2008 r1 in good condition will be available for 7L.

A 500/1000 rupee note will do the trick.

Tenhut from Pune who got his CBR recently , told us that he got the bike checked as per DRI docs for legal import.

If all of the above mentioned bikes are legally clean..I think gixxer is the best deal for you.
Mileage and price is way lesser than the R1...then again, im biasd when its gixxer..:-)

                  I loved your request

Get either one of them only if the papers are right. I had to look a lot to get a clean 600. Tbh I think I got really lucky with the 600 I got it loaded with aftermarket and is DRI cleared.
Then again...one does need to have some sort of risk apetite when buying a 600 in India but if that aint a problem then u should go for the 600 than the litre. wont go into the reasons of that as they its just my opinion.

                        Dude dude dude

                        R1-> official or not official.
R1-> not official -> dump the vehicle and buy an official one.
R1-> official -> take the papers and go to a lawyer.
R1-> official -> no need to cross check chasis no etc.

Its simple...go buy a bike from a yamaha, honda or suzuki showroom like you would go buy bread from a grocery store..dont complicate it much !

Oh you dont know half the story, these supers depreciate quite rapidly.
For instance, I know some in my locality who got a used official R1 last year for around 7.5-8L and mind you this bike had tons of after market parts including a 2 Bros exhaust, custom levers, wheels and HID's.

So yes, an official 2008 R1 can be had for around 7L.

Wish I had that kind of money, would have bought one myself.
All riders fall; some get back on, some don't, some can't...

I did not say that it was impossible. my freind could not find one in Delhi for under 8.5L. I think 7L for official 08R1 in good condition is a good price and should not be missed.
