  • New bike for Dad, Advise needed

Hi all, My dad sold his 7yr old Unicorn and wants to get a new one. We are looking at a few options, need some advise on those.

Also want to know if there are any new releases in near future in 150+ category.

    • Honda Unicorn : We wanted a decent looking bike and had only two options Suzuki GS-150R or Unicorn. GS-150 looks odd,so its out of our list and Uni would be monotonous since he is using it for 7yrs now, may be the alloys and new paint schemes may differ those views.
    • Hero Honda Karizma(Not ZMR) : Yeah Karizma I was literally jumping when he said "How about KARIZMA". We are concerned about the spares issue, otherwise its Karizma all the way. Suffices my needs too until I get a new one for me.( R15 may be )
    • Honda Aviator : Hmmm, now this is our last option, Since it would be helpful for both my mother and brother, who just learned riding two wheelers. So going for aviator would make it easy for them, serves all needs.

Ofcourse I'm pestering my dad to go for Karizma, since we can swap bikes and use them ocassionally and I might use it for tours instead of my pulsar . But the spares issue is a bit worrying. It would be among those options finally,So, Started this thread just to know if going for a Karizma is a wise decision now??

    Topic Approved.

Apart from the fact that you would be able to use the ZMA for your own purposes too (), I strongly believe the Karizma would be an apt fit, mix of perfect "not on your face" styling, good but relaxed power and riding, and perfectly comfortable seats.
    :)

Quick! get a Karizma before you guys buy the Aviator .

Well. Let be try to put it honestly as I can.
First regarding the R15. A bike second to none among the small bikes (below 250cc). Though by the time, that is, when the time arrives to go for a new one again, there will be more better options on the table.

Regarding spare issues of Karizma. I have to honestly admit I have not had the opportunity to tests its 'expensive' reputation yet. I have been using a karizma for the past one year and I use Daily. It has not given me any major problems so far with the exception of a speedo cable replacement and brake light switch. So maintenance cost on spare parts is almost nil for a year, which in my book, I considered very economical.

Whether it would be a wise decision to go for Karizma? I do not know, as I do not possess the wisdom here. You see you still have the Aviator, your mother and brother in the equation. Though it would be a smart decision .

@TS:You seem to have forgotten rtr 180 (ps:I got 1 just now for my dad )
That will be compact ,street friendly (mostly as your father won't tour much) & also a hell lot of fun for you if & when you decide for tours...

your choice should be between the GS and the ZMA. Maybe the price difference between the GS and the ZMA, could convince your family to add the extra 20k, and get a GS and a aviator, so nearly everyone's needs are sufficed ( except maybe yours!! hehe! )

My offerings to the gods of speed -

            - KTM Duke 200
            - Yamaha RXZ 5 speed

I was about to say the same thing-the GS will be a refreshing change for your Dad after the Uni, and by adding a bit more to the saved amount, maybe you could get a scoot for your Mom&sis too!
If you do like the R15, get it later&use it just for yourself. Your Dad mostly won't be interested in riding it since he is used to Uni.
              Quench my thirst with gasoline!

                  Thanks for the replies
Went to HH showroom today and guess what there is not even a single Karizma on Display,Surprising coz that is the biggest HH showroom in our District :P, anyways borrowed a Friend's karizma and took it home, Dad liked it, but according to my friend, service and spare parts availability sucks here. He said he had been waiting for 3 months or so for some minor parts. Listening to this My Dad scrapped it off the list.

He was thinking the same, why not get a Uni and a Aviator instead of Karizma and there goes my Karizma tours into dust . May be I could get some better options by the time I upgrade mine.

Anyways, then we went to Honda showroom, which my cousin Owns( Another reason why we stuck to Honda ). Looked at the Aviator in Flesh for the first time, looks a bit odd, So scoot plans are on hold right now. Also my cousin told me that a fresh batch of Uni's are coming with a new paint scheme and a few minor changes, said he would inform me when they arrive so that we can have a look at it and Finalize our options.
Good thing is that I don't have to book and wait for weeks to get hold of the bike, thanks to my cousin

I'll update this thread once our options are finalized. Thank you all for your suggestions

A piece of advice here..Why don't you swap the bike just now?
                    This the perfect time bro

But seriously speaking whatever Pulsar you own would be comfortable for your dad too..It's comfortable and is apt for everything your dad'd ask for.
Now what you can do from the money saved here is get yourself a new bike

I may sound wicked at the moment but given your dad's requirement a Pulsar shall serve the purpose as brilliantly as a ZMA or Uni..
If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

                      Tried that a long back
My father doesn't like the seating posture of pulsar and he would never swap pulsar Otherwise I could have done that already.
Nothing to worry, I can give it my bro in a few months and get a new one
