  • Apache RTR 180 vs Suzuki GS 150 vs Yamaha FZ - 16

    Hello everyone,

I am planning to buy a first bike and am confused on which one to buy. I went through the ownership thread of many bikes and found that each bike has it's own advantages and disadvantages.

My experience with bikes is very limited. Have rode my cousin's RX 135 quite a few times, apart from that, it's almost nil.

I test rode the apache and the gs, apache was very powerful and suzuki was super smooth. Now, I am confused as to what is more important.

    1. How bad are the vibes in RTR 180, compared to say a pulsar? I don't want to compare it with that of a unicorn or a GS cos I know they are very silent. If it's better or comparable to pulsar's, I can live with it.

    2. Isn't the suzuki a bit heavy and underpowered? And have the rusting issues been taken care of? If not I am ditching the GS.

I have considered the rtr 180 coz it comes with tubeless tyres and a rear disc which is a good addition over the 160. Am I falling into some kinda marketing trap here?

Also, how is the Pulsar 220 sports edition? I don't like the one with fairing.

    My budget is around 75k.

Please let me know your suggestions.

Why do you need a bike? Touring or local commuting? If i were in your shoes I'd close my eyes and pick the RTR 180 right away.

No, indeed RTR 180 is a really good VFM bike as compared to others available in same price range except P220F/S

Just make sure of the following and try a test drive on all your shortlisted bikes

#1 Whats your purpose for buying a bike (local commuting or College or Family commuting or touring or racing)

#2 What you are looking for in the bike (example high speed, mileage or mileage with good breaking , long life etc....)

I am using GS150R and their was no rusting issues in the 2010 batch it was their in the early 2009 batch

check the GS 150 R thread to learn more

Thanks a lot for your replies guys..

Main purposes as of now will be local commuting with occasional short trips to places around bangalore.

I won't be using it for racing purposes for sure!

I used the love the flickability of the RX, so the ease of riding without fear of making a mistake is important. Also should be easy to park in gallis and zip through heavy traffic.

Also, could anyone shed some light on vibrations in RTR 180? is it manageable? How is it compared to the Pulsar 180?

Apache 180 is a better bike of the lot and the most costly too cost around 75k

FZ16 cost 71k which is a great bike too.. best bike for city commuting and short trips.. and best looking too..

Vibs in apache is more than pulsar but if you leave that part it is a better package than pulsar

GS 150 cost 68k and is a office guy type bike.. with a super smooth engine no thrils frills..
Riding, loving and enjoying my lord of the streets.. FZ-S...

And dreaming of an R6/R1/FZ1/CBR 1000RR

The FZ is almost as expensive as an RTR here..

But is the price of the FZ justified? I understand it comes with monoshocks and fatter tires.. Are the tires tubeless?

How is the pickup and speed compared to other bikes in the 150cc segment?

I won't be using the bike for going to places more than say 200kms, so the Fazer is just of of question.

But I saw on some site that the Fuel Efficiency of the FZ and the Fazer varies by as much as 10kmpl!!! Is this true?

Also, what are the different transmission types available? The Yams come with a return type shifter.. What does it mean?

PS: Also, it would be great if I can find something which doesn't need much gear changes. I mean, it should be able to pull even at higher gears - which is the best bike in this aspect?

Here in Bangalore FZ is costlier than RTR 180 by more than 1k if I still remember it correctly. And in performance mainly pickup and top speed RTR 180 beats FZ hands down.

In this aspect FZ is a clear winner without any doubt.

how can that be when fz has 13.6 nm torque @ 6000 rpm and apache RTR has 15.5 nm torque @6500 rpm?

the RTR180 is better, figures speak for themselfs...even RTR 160 has 13.1 nm @6500 torque....

from my personal experience the apache rtr180 can pull from 23kmph at 5th gear

                      +1

FZ can't even hold a candle to the CBZ-Xtreme.Leave alone the RTR 160/180.Touring spirit/Lord of the streets is just a marketing gimmick and i feel sorry for those people who fall for it after taking those lines seriously. The FZ/Fazer are beautiful looking bikes and they are second to none when it comes to eye-candy.But If you crave for stonking performance-handling-VFM package then the RTR is the way you should look for or else it has to be the P220-S!!

Dude FZ is far ahead then CBZ in terms of performance

FZ is a much better bike than RTR 160.. TOP end of both the bikes is almost same! and I mean it..

FZ handling is much better than RTR... RTR feels to small..

RTR comes with vibrations too.. FZ has very very less to no vibrations..

FZ is a great performer on STREETS undoubtedly and lord of the streets is the right tag for the bike.. FZ will get you better money when you sell it

And last thing is it is a YAMAHA!..

APACHE 180 is a MUCH better bike than FZ in terms of performance.. and if you are giving out 75k than I guess you should go with P220 which is a better performer than an RTR and looks better tooo..

but 76k for FZ is not justified... Here FZ cost 70k and FZS 72 and FAZER 80 which is a good price..

FZ gives mileage of 45 and rtr gives mileage of 50 ( 160 )

For a relaxed ride with bursts of madness in between, FZ is the way to go IMO... I've tried several bikes now and not one 150 cc came close to the handling and the confidence that the FZ gives (except the R15, of course).... Brakes too are best in class acc. to me... Dont need to say anything abt the looks i think

However, I agree that the A180/ and P220 are very attractive VFM options in the same price range..

In conclusion, If you are gonna cruise at 70-80 and are okay with the bike not going beyond 115 easily, I would recommend you to go to the Yamaha temple (Showroom) and join the cult of the Fuzzy Lord!

                              In terms of handling- FZ(14bhp)
In terms of pickup,top-end, etc..---- apache 180(17.3 bhp)
If both bikes are taken for a drag race...........dude, apache will smoke Fz......
Now coming to GS150R.... it has only 13bhp.....with 6 gears... it will hardly reach 115km/hr....
now what are you waiting for ?????
just go and book Apache 180.............
