  • Which bike to Go for as my First bike?

Hi guys i am planning to get my first bike this month i haven't never owned a bike but have ridden my Dad's Honda Eterno for past 3 years for commuting towards my college.

Now After successful convincing to my parents have finally i have roped in on 3 bikes

    1) GS150R
    2) unicorn
    3) CB Twister

Now what am i looking for is that provides

Good Mileage,Comfort in long drives, and Able to Accommodate my Height since i am 6 feet 1 inches and 60 kgs,Pillion comfort to some extent(not much important),

Yeah and i am able to Easily manage my Eterno so i don't mind the weight being more than Eterno which is around 130 kg so weight is not a issue.

Now i don't care much about looks more into performance overall.

Now though i have a more inclination towards 150CC that's why Twister actually is my last choice since already driven Eterno i don't want to go back to 100 CC.Uni has been in my view for sometime but really SVC of Honda is not good i have got activa and eterno so i know about this.
GS i don't know much except reading some views and people saying that it has some rusting issues in the tank and some variations in mileage after few months.

Now the bike will me used in Expressway and City roads. Since i have never ridden a bike so i do have some hesitancy but i would really like to go forward and get my First bike.

Budget is around 65K and hope these details are enough for some experts around

better take a test ride and decide about the bike........ you might be facing little problem with mileage(since riding a 1st bike)........ so which ever you feel like having go and buy it........

hmm test ride ok i will be testing them but i don't know much about the bikes i listed as such just some info from net that's all.

mileage may be a prob since my first bike (Didn't get this)

I know it will be somewhat different since gear is now in feet but at least i have ridden a geared scooter for past 3 years so i know which RPM to change gears.

So guys can you provide pros and cons of the bikes

"towards my college"..mmmm. And all this time, I bet your Dad thought you were going to college .
Anyway hard to suggest one. maybe GS150 if you're feling a little adventurous else Unicorn if you want to play safe.

hehe don't go into so much into my grammer any way Unicorn i don't mind just that over the years i expected Honda to add some flare to it i will test ride it but SVC guys here are bad. That's one of the main reason i am so reluctant for Uni as for GS don't know much also.

GS is heavier than Uni a couple of kgs so hw is GS Engine and all in comparison to Uni.

now i can complain about Honda SVC but Honda engine are mighty no negatives using Activa and eterno i know the power and silence even in Eterno only since it is now almost 5 yrs old has it started giving some weird noises and running 74K Km i don't blame it.

now can anybody please tell about the GS vs Uni advantage also GS is new and some people say it has some Tire Grip issues it doesn't work well in Wets.

GS 150 among your choices and if you need a hell reliable , niggle free "boring" bike then go for unicorn.....

you can consider HH Hunk and Pulsar 135 too.

P.S- boring in terms of looks only and no offence to any unicorn owner.
              2003 - 2009 : Pulsar 150 Classic (Sold)
              2009 - Present : Pulsar 220 Dtsi
              2009 - Present : Honda Activa
              2016 - Present : KTM Duke 390

                my choice unicorn

i brought unicorn almost 2 years ago .since then it has no issues.
service center here is also ok.but better than local mechanics.

gs wasnt launched at my time.but still i would go for unicorn
good suspension.means better comfort even for pillion.

smooth and silent engine.i too read somewhere suzuki svc is very few or less.
here there is no suzuki svc.

new bike still to make place in market.
honda unicorn has made way into hearts of many.
                average is also good.
i get in 50 to 52 in city and 60 in highway.
my uncle who has back problem too said .it has very good suspension.

test ride both. my vote goes to unicorn

I guess you can safely eliminate Twister from the list.. coz, it's a compact bike. Not for a person who is 6' plus (IMO). Safe choice for you is Unicorn.. only -ve I can think of GS150R is service.. if you have service centre near your place.. you can go for it.. it's heavier than Unicorn.. has low initial pickup, you can say it's the slowest of 150cc lot. It has that 6th gear!! which can be used on highways to good effect.

hmm thanks i do have to travel to and fro in the expressway like 60 kms so is GS fine for it.

Also is GS slower than Honda Eterno ? If that is the case then i have to think

Hey the GS 150 is superb!its not as common as this one and also its features are better
the 6 gears in it are a breeze
its dash is just amazingly nice
                        its performance is better
fuel efficiency is also slightly better
                        it handles easier
but honda's servicing is top notch and even widespread
also at higher speeds unicorn feels safer
though GS overall seems better there's no regretting even if u get a unicorn

Bro why do you hesitate? i had never ridden a scooter or bike properly and 3 months back i got a pulsar 220, its all about confidence and your passion to be on that machine bro. Just go for the one u like best, i suggest the apache rtr160, if u can strech your budget a bit, even the HH hunk will be a good option!
when the strech is empty, my bike tells me to wring its throttle and give my commands!

@pulsating 220 i tried rtr180 of my friend i have issues with the height my knees are almost bent and i really don't like the leaning position so much. That's why it is not on the list.

Thanks for all the replies still a bit hesitant on which bike hope a few replies negate it further

GS150... the best money can buy in 150 class..the majestic fuel tank design looks conservative though..else headlamp and rear are direct lifts from SBKs it seems. The speedo should impress you as well! Check this out
