  • Bike for an enthusiatic commuter

    Hi All,
After loosing sleep on choosing the bike, I am here to seek help of all you guys out here. The forums have been very informative but I am here especially for your views about the newly launched Unicorn CB Dazzler when put against GSX 150 R.

So coming to my needs and inclinations:
I am a 5'6" and light (60 kg) guy and need to choose a ride. I wish to put the bike to following uses:
    1. Mostly for daily office commute, 40 KM of Stop go city traffic with few 3-7 KM stretches.
    2. Comfortable for a female sitting in Indian dress like Saree etc (not cross legged)
    3. Off the shelf fresh. I am bored of too many Pulsars, CBZZzzzz and Unicrons.
    4. Mileage not a major criterion (50-60 will do)
    5. I love technology so something top notch in this section
    6. Usable for a loong drive once in a while. To home about 160 Km one side. So stamina is necessary.
    7. I like to ride tough at times so should be able to take some abuse. Though I pamper the bike well too

My personal research landed me to two last options and choosing one of them has taken my appetite away.

Unicorn CB Dazzler: Rear disc is what has taken my heart away and no doubt the tubeless tires, better styling. Looks a little starved from the body styling and I worry it does't have a Saree Guard cum Footrest. The seat length may also be uncomfortable for women sitting on the side, mostly with some luggage eg after a shopping spree.

GSX 150 R: Looks muscular, is almost as refined, comes with few latest goodies (console, 6th cog etc). Is heavy so I think will be stable on highway. And plenty of space for the pillion rider.

I have driven them and I found Dazzler peppy and responsive (I personally like it) and GSX 150 R seemed serene and efficient (lots of practicality for my purposes)

The biggest dilemma is that I dont want to missout on the goodies provided by Honda, but also don't want to compromise on the practicality of GSX 150 R.

So the questions that arise are:
Is GSX 150 R good and agile enough for city driving?
Is GSX 150 R's rear drum good enough to provide safety as compared to Honda's disk?
Could Honda provide a rear side footrest and leg guard in future?
Does Honda have enough space for the pillion rider?

Of course I can get the tublesses and MF Battery on GSX as well. I love the console and stance of fuel tank on the GSX 150 R.

    * I live in Chandigarh so Suzuki's service network is not an issue here.
    * Please avoid suggesting alternatives as I am already messed up in the head.

All please advise. Any owners of Dazzler here?
    Thanks in advance

Thanks all for the quick responses.

I am as close to go for the Dazzler as these two dots: he he

            Only concerns are:
Comfortable for a female sitting in Indian dress like Saree etc (not cross legged)

            and question no 4:
Could Honda provide a rear side footrest and leg guard in future?

I hope Honda will have enough juice to go on a highway and stability etc is out of question being a Honda.

            Regards.

Get the FZ if mileage is not much of a concern.. else get the dazzler..

                New Technology in Dazzler:

-Better cam profile for more power
-MF battery. So confident that they took the kick off
-Rear disc. New for 150 cc commuter(ish) segment at least
-Front cowls to redirect the airflow.
-Engine cam cover has a vent to provide airflow 'over' the cam cover
                -Tubeless tires. Both!
-Electronic speedometer, fuel gauge, tripmeter, odometer
-Dual spring, 5-step adjustable monoshock suspension
                -Of couse styling
                -Reduced wieght

Enough to give your heart to

                  Hi all members,

If I had to choose a bike, I would have based on the reviews elsewhere in the forum. I have some unique concerns about the choice. Please read my opening post.

This way your replies will hold more value for directing me in my decision.

                  Thanks

As I mentioned in the beginning also:

Dazzler does not come with a side footrest cum saree guard as well as as a leg guard!
Could Honda provide a rear side footrest and leg guard in future? Any info anyone? I have checked in the showroom and it has all the holes needed to fit one in.

Is an open chain any concern with the Indian female dresses? Dupatta tangling in there etc?

How about toe shifter? Does it spoils the office wear? a Toe heel can be operated even in your sandals, is this true for the toe only shifter?

i think gs150r meets your requirements.
practicality is what matters in long run.
both honda and suzuki have reliable engines, but for pillion comfort gs will be good as it has bigger seat width.. rear drum brakes wont bother you much, they do their job quite well.. service network was the only issue with suzuki, but you mentioned its not a problem in your place.
The toe shifter will surely spoil your shoes...
at last all i can say is listen to your heart and make the decision.

Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

you can always put in the side footrest cum saree guard.....
and i dont think the open chain cover will trouble you or anyone sitting in the rear in Indian dresses....
and a toe shifter will spoil you office wear only if it is covered with mud or slime.....

are these really new? I guess most of them are present in one or other bike but I'd definitely take this as pluses over old Unicorn.
