If Quality is the only requirement regardless of the power then go for FZ.
If a slightly off-card vehicle that provides an fine reliability along with other mixtures are required then Pulsar.
From both of them Pulsar 180 is a VFM machine. Donot just remove the vehicle from your list just becuz it has become 'COMMON', I hate this word. All bikes have 2 tyres, 1 engine that delivers power, so almost all the things are common in the bikes. So, why purchase them, Instead we should then buy a ROCKET only becuz it is uncommon or we should buy Bullock-cart only becuz it is the most uncommon in cities or maybe switch back to HORSES used by RAJA-MAHARAJA. No offence, purely my thinking about COMMON word.Last edited by abhichotu.abhi; 08-03-2010, 10:18 PM.

yeah the fz seat is a sucker for anyone over 70 kgs ... my friend was in the same spot ... fz or p180 ... he weighs like 95 and is 6 feet tall ... p180 plus points are :Originally posted by MT01 View PostYou are 5.11
You are somewhat overweight.
And you are still considering FZ?
Why?Why?Why?
Go for the 180.
more capacity ( fz is only 150 cc )
its pretty powerful
seats are big enough so you can take a pillion also
on the other side, quality of yamaha is awsm...
but i would say p180 for its better torque and power ...
PS: i chose p220 over r15 for this very reason ... more cc, btter torque and more power ... and i simply love my bike ...

You haven't listed any requirements.. please do that, which will make it easier to compare bikes for the purpose. As always.. please take test ride of both the bikes. Moreover.. you seemed to like FZ and more concerned about how you look on that bike, is it so?? why should you bother about that!!Let's bring down the monster of corruption to it's knees.. please visit http://ipaidabribe.com/

Exactly!! +100.Originally posted by vrugonnab View PostYou haven't listed any requirements.. please do that, which will make it easier to compare bikes for the purpose. As always.. please take test ride of both the bikes.
You cannot decide unless you take a test ride. A test ride is must. Ask a friend to take some snaps too. It will tell you how you look in that bike much easily.
With Great Power, comes Great Responsibilities .....

i am just sayin,it might be a totally personal thing, but 2 of my frnds sold their fz-16's (one 1year old and other 4months old) and took 180's.. i was the one who sold those 2..they r normal riders who go on at 70~80 max..
things they said were bad on the fz for commutiing
.dont know why,but they complained of acute wrist pain
.the sitting position is uncomfortable
.milage of a 200cc+ bike
.sluggish and have to race the valves to be brisk
one of them took a testdrive of the 180,then we went the next day and bought the 180 and it was then he brought his frnd along to see the bike, then he test drove the 180 and immidiately sold the fz and took the 180 the next day..
so,choose carefully.. and if u ask me,i would say go with the 180 with ur eyes closed..RED BULL did'nt give me WINGS, my BIKE did !!

One thing bad about the FZ: Uncomfortable for long rides with a pillion as the length of the seat is very less.
One thing bad about the P180: Heavy
One thing good about the P180: Nice throttle response and better acceleration than the FZ
One good thing about the FZ: Fat ass Soft compound tyres providing awesome grip and confidence.
FZ has loads of poser value. P180 is more suited for almost all kinds of riding except offroading.
PS: Getting a bike just because its tyres are fat doesn't make much sense.
And Bajaj is also reliable. Don't start on the usual brand war that people here normally do.
@Ashwin208: Bajaj also has very good quality now. The UG4 variant of the P180 is more refined and more reliable than ever. The vibes are almost nil when compared to the UG3. I ride a UG3 and have ridden a friend's UG4 extensively. So I know what I am talking about.
My take: The P180UG4...hands down!
Do NOT decide unless you ride both.
Mileage: Both have almost the same mileage. But P180 makes more sense as it pumps out more power but is fuel efficient at the same time.Last edited by pavanchirmade; 08-07-2010, 09:57 AM.

There are some cases where choices are quiet difficult. Yours seems to be one of the easier ones, considering there are only two and not to mention quiet different.
Was I you, I would go for FZ. To be honest, I didn't go for FZ when I had to decide for myself
. Sounds hypocritical. However my choice was different from yours and me requirement is probably different as well. Mine was between Zma-R and FZ. Like them both. Ultimately went for Zma.
Many would quote the engine power. But for me, that wasn't my primary concern. I don't see much of a difference between Zma & FZ. For that matter I don't see much difference among all bikes below Ninja 250. I see them as small commuters bikes that are hell of a practical machines. A couple of CCs and HPs difference doesn't strike me as deciding factors. Whats more important to me were..
1. Which are the one I like most (Of course, as per my wallet).
2. The manner on how those tiny amount of powers are delivered. And for my purpose, Zma's power delivery on highway was more to my liking than that of FZ.
3. Quality/reliability. Which I find them equally good.
Had I not have to travel on highway daily. I'd probably be riding the FZ today.

Keep your prejudices aside and go ask for a test ride for Fz16 and p180
when you are at it, check if you like the rider position.(assuming that other parameters like performance, FE, Depreciation, are nt important)
its like buying a shoe, yew have to try out a couple of them to find the one which fits you well and is also comfortable. ^ ^
that being said pulsars are heavy, but coz of this reason its assuring at higher speeds, remains stable as a rock
(poisoning yer mind with my prejudices)
yes fz16 probably handles well in city riding conditions, after all they claim that they have achieved near 50/50 weight distribution.
(i can imagine those engineers to have designed the rider's seating position keeping that in mind too,
, even tho it might not necessarily mean good rider comfort
)
PS: i had gone for a test ride for the FZ16 few weeks after it was launched
, but the guy over there said that they didnt give test rides
. so i went over to Bajaj
, and looked up a P180. But the flyers for P220 S caught my eye and i booked one (this was in Jan, they didnt have any to give me a test ride, i assumed it would be like my pal' p220/p150 ~~)
Nevertheless the wait for 220S was kinda
long, and the dealer said that i would have to wait for some more months
, so i ditched the 220S plan and got a 220F dtsi
.
sry i got carried away
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car

I trhink you should go for fz16(the new model with some cosmetic changes). It has good low and mid range torque and beats pulsar 180 in 0-60 drag. For this you can refer overdrive (july edition- actually i m not confident as i dont remember the month)
after all heavy bike for a heavy man.
( i m also 90 and ride yamaha rx100 -a very gentle bike)
