  • Calamity stikes Leh! Let's do something for our Dream destination.

The unfortunate heavy Downpour and resultant flash flood is no more a news that any of us would be unaware, however, for the information of those who somehow dint hear about it, please refer to this:

    Flash flood hits Leh

Our heartfelt condolences to all of those who suffered and I know no amount of words can bring them solace. People have lost great deal, and it might take some time for the life in Leh to get back to normal.

I am sure the place is a dream destination for most of the Touring enthusiasts for it offers almost everything one can ask for. I was planning to go to Leh this September but owing to the conditions, I just might not go. But I propose that xBhp being a group with a cause, should step forward and lets do something for the region.

The contribution can be anything: Food, clothes, medicines, money. Something that we think will be good for the people in need.

I would like the front runners of the forum to think about it and come up with something that proves that we have a heart too inside the armour jacket.

I am going to send clothes, shoes, medicines and some money towards the victims. How are my mates going to help me with this?

Sunil, can we collect the stuff from our mates, load it in a truck, dispatch the truck and send few of the distinguised xBhpians to ensure that the stuff gets into the right hands.

Despite the fact that the heart cries out for the people who are suffering, am sure, there still are few who are planning to make it big at this unfortunate times also. Hope you got my point.

I'm short on Moolah, but I'm willing enough to donate some almost new clothing. For the Hospitality they've shown us travellers over the years, I for one think It's time we give something back to them.

Do we have a website or a group we could approach? A brilliant Initiative from dcs, would love to see many more like minded people coming together for a cause...

Thanks dcs for this, I am already working on this... and like said before, my one day salary is pledged for it.

I will also circulate the news around and probably flag a ride for collecting money.

              Cheers!

                    Hi DCS,

A very thoughtful step that you've taken up. In fact me and Shivanshu were discussing on similar lines when he came up with such an idea.

I am deeply saddened by the turn of events, especially at the place where I have thought of going time and again, almost like a pilgrimage to me!

I believe we should have a common G2G in different cities wherein members can come in and contribute. The total can be deposited in one account and a cheque can be issued in favor of say the MC of Leh. Just a thought

Or perhaps a volunteer from xBhp can go there and support the cause, all hand over the cheque to the concerned authority. If we can support for a cause, this is the biggest of them all!

Do let me know how things shape up. I know a few people there who can be the right people to submit our contributions..

Guys, I was thinking something the day I read the LEH Tragedy news on the paper. Lets do our bit!
Every Bikers' dream is to once ride on "World's Highest Motorable Road" at LEH.Every year many of us actually also realize this dream too.Leh is a beautiful place to be in.All those who got Leh'd bears the Testimony.

But the beauty of that place is devastrated owing to the recent flash floods.300 dead and the toll is counting.Floods have washed away homes,shops,roads,schools,cattles...etc. on which livelihood of those friendly people depended.

I believe its our moral duty ,our moral responsibilty to help them, the unfortunate people out there in LEH.When we go to LEH,those people out there had greeted us with smiles, gave our food, water, blankets and quilts to keep ourselves warm.It was not easy for them to accept an outsider / bunch of BIKERS zooming into their quiet peaceful city but they welcomed us without saying a word.

Now they need food, water and rehabilitation.Their entire life's saving has been washed away.

I believe we should help them. So I call out all the XBHP members to contribute any amount that they can to help them.

May be we can skip a movie over the weekend or a royal food at a restaurant or may be leave a burger one day at the nearest McD and donate that amount for LEH relief fund. This small won't matter us much but small amounts sum up to a big amount and will make a difference to people out there at LEH!

I suggest lets set up a "XBHP Leh relief fund" for LEH! This will give them moral support and make them believe that during this misfortunate times they are not alone.

                      Ideas welcomed!
                      Please HELP!
                      Now they need us.
Now lets all find a way how we can donate out contribution directly to the people of LEH and not to some greedy corrupted bureaucrats!
The Fast and the Curious kind!!!

Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

                        dcs bhai

You need to airfreight things. Truck won't make it through. there's a rivulet through leh town itself now courtesy the cloudburst. The whole topography has changed. Even besides that - around Sarchu ,There are multiple landslides.

Just yesterday I came across 3 tons of Kinley bottles being airfreighted by Kingfisher to Leh. Toh plan needs to be different.

and as of now the people are in shock. alot of them have left their houses and are living in the mountains, camped - out of hysteria and a fear of any such future incidents.

                          Nice initiative !!
However, i am not sure that we can take care of the logistics involved in transporting stuff from varioius parts of the country.
I suggest, lets keep it simple and raise money.
                          Things we could do.

                          1. 1 day salary pledge
                          2. Not ride the bike/car for a few days and save on the expenses and contribute the same.

In Bluevolt's gift a dream ride, i think the total collection was 76k
So we can look at something in six figures maybe.

                          How to utilize the money:

Adopt a particular stretch/few houses/any structure to be rebuilt.
People going to Leh in August could identify what has to be done and later on people going in September(which includes me if all things fall into place) can start with some initiation of the houses/structure to be rebuilt.

Either this, or we could simply give the money to some trust worthy NGO/Leh officials.

All of us have drooled over the marvellous beauty of Leh, many of us have been wishing to go there and some of us have already been there. Its time we give Leh, something back.

                              A Suggestion !!

Hmm ... Just lyk some1 suggested b4 we need to conduct local G2G for this ...... Hence for the Mumbai Gang, I propose :-

Y not conduct a LEH-LADAKH RELIEF FUND G2G @ Marine Drives !! .... We can have a small awareness ride on the sea front .... All the stuff collected would be handed over to central xBhp team which will route it to our needy ladakhi brothers and sisters ....... What else would be the best way to pay our tribute to fellow Indians on Independence Day ....... May it free our ladakhi people from all sorrows and hardships !!
