Make a call to the seller and fix an appointment. Check the bike. Take a test ride. Check the papers. Negotiate the deal. Get papers transferred in your name. Pay up. Ride home wearing safety gear. That is how you should proceed on the deal. There is not much to it.

The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Also ensure that the bike is legal in all aspects so you dont encounter any issues from the DRI/RTO later.

As I said, check the papers.

I'm not sure if they sold "Rossi" edition bikes in India but why buy a grey market bike if you can get a fully legal one sold in India for about the same amount of money?

You can then buy the rossi edition fairings or whatever and just slap them on!

If it is a bike sold in India then find out which dealer sold it and talk to them about the service history. Ask for the bills etc. so you know what has been done on the bike in the past.

AFAIK legally even this is not permitted (although it's pretty rampant). Citing from Laws - Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 Section 52

            (1) No owner of a motor vehicle shall so alter the vehicle that the particulars contained in the certificate of registration are at variance with those originally specified by the manufacturer:

Explanation.-For the purposes of this section, "alteration" means a change in the structure of a vehicle which results in a change in its basic feature.

There is however, a provision which allows you to make alterations after making an application to the RTO in whose jurisdiction the vehicle is. (Like that's gonna happen)

Now I normally wouldn't consider any of these rules on regular vehicles since no one pays much attention to them, but a Rossi edition R1, or any import for that matter, will inevitably attract the attention of police... so I'd want to have my stuff in order or be willing to shell out bribes.

Yeah! We know that we are not even allowed to paint our car in any scheme other than that is mentionned in the RC!

                I have a query :
There will be any problem at first to handle a superbike for a new rider?

No problems really...just that they go much faster, stop much faster and don't turn like smaller bikes. Take it slowly and over time you'll get to grips with it.

For starters you can check the MV act I linked to earlier... there are many other provisions there you might be interested in looking at to ensure you get a clean bike.

I really feel that if one doesnt know what one should be looking for in the papers one should really just buy an official bike from a showroom and get done with the entire bike buying thing.
I mean..no one can tell you much about papers and even if they do you wouldnt have the slightest clue if the dealer is faking the documents or if they are for real.
Unless you have done this before or are close friends to someone who has done it before do not venture into it. You WILL BE duped. Guaranteed.
If you find the need to ask what one should look out for while buying an unofficial bike you shouldnt be buying the unoffcial bike at all.
                          Good luck !

i think if he had the money to buy a new one, he would have posted the topic with a suitable subject and we would have all commented on the droolworthy pictures.
So please cut the guy some slack, and tell him what to look for, instead of scaring the shit out of him.

Sir, there are many illegal bikes in the country and the best way to deal is to find a lawyer who specializes in this or get a photocopy of the RC and then take it to RTO. With a few bucks to some clerk in RTO you can figure out the authenticity of it. I might not be completely right but i don't have any other advice that does not border on paranoia.

                            Good luck then.
