  • Best Insurance for SBKs?

    Hi Guys,
Unlike our Indian bikes, insurance claims for SBKs are humungous. A small accident with rickshaw can make us poorer by few lakhs. Keeping that in mind it would be great if you can post your experience whilst dealing with insurance companies, claims, recommendations etc for your SBKs. I have to renew my insurance (previously being IFFCO TOKIO), but haven't read good review on mouthshut. Well mouthshut have people bad mouthing about everything.

So your advise would be greatly appreciated. Any idea on Future Generali motor insurance for SBK or any other for that matter.

I had the standard Oriental Insurance that Probiking sell with the Ninja 250's. Had major accidents with both bikes, which were eventually classified as 'write-off'. Both claims took 6 MONTHS to process to settlement. Becuase its a bike and amount is deemed 'high' they question and question and question everything. They even sent investigators to site of 1 accident to verify claim details.

I've had unsavoury experiences with private insurance companies. Since then, I stick to the nationalised insurance companies. Either Oriental or United.

For a new bike, how easy/difficult is it to get the insurance done by ourself?

                official sbk insurance

SBK insurance for OFFICIAL indian billing bikes go with the insurance company suggested by the official dealer who has sold you the bike.
they generally have a tie up with the insurance company and processing is easy in case of any insurance claims.
ask for cashless facility, if possible otherwise the amount to be deposited for even a minor claim is huge and refund of the deposit takes time.
                dreams come true..

Generally, the dealers do have a tie-up. But you can always tell them that you will take care of the insurance yourself. More often than not, the premiums are always lower when you arrange insurance yourself. And cashless facility is available with only a few dealers and/or insurance companies.

Not at all difficult. Just approach an insurance agent representing the insurance company you have selected, and engage him to talk to the dealer to get the necessary papers and get a quotation for the premium.

Getting insurance done is never a problem. You are welcomed on a red carpet. The problem is getting claims done.

Sandesh - I've had good results with New India Assurance but so far have not had any major issues with the bike. They replaced my front wheel (which had a small bend in it) without any fuss (list price Rs.20000)

To make matters worse, when Pune Bajaj appointed garage had the bike they stole the whole front brake unit. The Mumbai Ghatkopar garage stole the battery. Cost me 30k and 9k to replace before salavge person would buy. Even had photos showing bike with and without front brake in their premise, but they claimed it missing after they returned bike to my possession.

Heard some good reviews about IFFCO Tokio hence went ahead with them.
@Rossiter: Heard the same feedback about nationalized banks, probably next time will go them. Thread took time to approve.
@doktor: Dealer also get fat commissions. Also if you are getting bike serviced/claimed from other city like in my case, then again onus comes to you.
