^^ are they planning to use the kawasaki engines or their own? Another reason for the platina was that it was their own engine and not a kawi design. The boxer sold well due to the robust and bullet proof kawi engine as well.

Good move.. Bajaj will finally have a strong brand in the commuter space.. Platina somehow never appealed to the Commuter in me... (When I had the Caliber)
.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

This is a very sensible move from Bajaj.. seeing that Disco 100/150 have taken the fight to Spendor/Passion.. but the entry level Platina is not doing so well. Besides.. Boxer has got a good brand value.. you can still see boxers running around in rural areas in good condition. More over at a time Honda is chalking out plans to triple their sales.. one can be sure that there is going to be a bike priced around 40K from Honda.
This could be the big launch Rajiv was talking about when he said 130 dealerships are going to be added.. for the big launch coming up in April!! why do we need more dealerships to launch bigger Ninjas or bigger Pulsars.. I believe there will be big campaign for Boxer.. unlike Discover which was launched very silently.Let's bring down the monster of corruption to it's knees.. please visit http://ipaidabribe.com/

We have a guy here on xBHP pratham.phadnis who got Leh'd on his Boxer AT and the bike has done 55k+ kms and still running strong.Originally posted by vrugonnab View PostThis is a very sensible move from Bajaj.. seeing that Disco 100/150 have taken the fight to Spendor/Passion.. but the entry level Platina is not doing so well. The difference between short term and long term planning is that short term planners, just look for sales, where as long term planners look for customers.
Again a failed move by bajaj. A short increase in share of pie but will again be neutralized. Plantina will be stopped, resale of platina will drop, and the lower middle guy who bought it, will be left to pennies if he sells his bike sometime.
Bajaj has been unable to bring back its customers, which HH has done superbly. A middle class man buying a splendor/discover expects his bike to run for 1.5L to 2L kms, remain low maintenance throughout, and a problem free bike. Splendor has done it for years and will do it. I am a big fan of Bajaj, but unfortunately the "LALA company" approach they use will never give them highly loyal customers, only numbers. If hero honda were to remain hero honda, i see bajaj dropping them to number 3, or may be 4 down the line.

I don't agree with the resale value point you are trying to make here.. even HH discontinued CBZ, Ambition and some other models like Street, Sleek whatever. Yamaha had to discontinue RX100 due to pollution norms..what about the resale value of those guys who bought them just before that?? Did they face problem because of stopping failed models?? answer is no!! so why would Bajaj face a problem if they discontinue Platina?? what's the point of producing a bike if you can't make profit on it? it's not charity bro.. it's business. May be certain people can't come to terms with Bajaj's way doing things!! they make changes very fast.. which may not appeal to all, But they do it to survive as a company. Whether Mr. X will have a better resale value for his Platina is not a concern for any company!! be it Bajaj or some other company.Originally posted by kanishka007 View PostThe difference between short term and long term planning is that short term planners, just look for sales, where as long term planners look for customers.

This is brilliant, Boxer has enough in it to be a BIG brand for Bajaj. I hope they don't enter half heartedly with it this time around!Super CommuTOURer - Talk less, Ride more

Exactly.. Boxer as a brand has a very good recall in rural areas. I think stopping Boxer suddenly might be due to the fact it was using Kawasaki engine!!Originally posted by satyenpoojary View PostBoxer has enough in it to be a BIG brand for Bajaj.!Let's bring down the monster of corruption to it's knees.. please visit http://ipaidabribe.com/

Baja Boxer is definitely a good brand no doubt, then what happens to the existing Discover 100 ES, the one they're marketing with 100 Kmpl on highways? I thought this was the one that is competing with CD Dawn.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

The Disco100 is targetted more at Splendor & Passion segments along with TVS Star City & probably the Honda Shine market too.Originally posted by aargee View PostBaja Boxer is definitely a good brand no doubt, then what happens to the existing Discover 100 ES, the one they're marketing with 100 Kmpl on highways? Boxer would be the one that attacks the CD Dawn & the TVS Max 4R.
Bajaj has been on the Boxer work for about two years now. Hope this product rocks as well as the original Boxer.
