  • DIY tank pouch for mobile GPS

I was always troubled by having to stop, take off the gloves etc to check my mobile GPS for route details. Also, I'm not a big fan of traditional tank bags. All I want from a tank bag is to secure my mobile so that I can see the screen, and operate it easily.

Following is a simple and humble DIY tank pouch that I made to meet my needs.

    Materials required:
    1. 4 small yet good magnets (I used circular magnets from discarded speakers)

    2. A plastic pouch with atleast one clear side and sealable opening. (I used the pouch in which my cross rain gloves came)

    How to:
    1. Place the 4 magnets on the four corners of the pouch, and your mobile in the centre.

    2. Place the "contraption" on the tank so that there is minimal wind resistance.

A small piece of bubble wrap or other shock absorbing material may be used under the mobile if needed.

    Usage:
1.Whenever I need to check the map, I can just activate the screen by pressing one of the directional keys.
    2. For calls and music, I depend on my ever-present bluetooth headset (Sony MW600, if you ask). (I dont attend calls while riding, I dont play music while riding in city).

Hope someone can draw inspiration from this DIY and make such cheap yet immensely useful accessories.

    -Lijo

I've done high speed run on highways and on bad roads with this. It never moved. So I'm not worried about it falling off.
Only issue, if you can call it an issue, is that when riding in the sun the direct sunlight makes the mobile quite warm.

the constant nearness of such powerfull magnets might hamper the cell phones mechanism...

Awesome job. I always wanted to get this done but still unable to make a proper water proof pouch even when charger is connected. When am using GPS battery drains pretty fast

This is to be used only in clear weather. My setup is not at all waterproof...

thats good one man....i m surprised that it doesnt slip off driving in highways of kerala !!! and now i recommend the 'charge on the go'- set up, like what srijith has done in his bike, for the gps to work round the trip .

                          aakathe! :P

You can always place couple of magnets below the side panels!
Or do what i did! Tested it and it passed! was pretty hard to remove actually!Used some tape just in case it went of too but im thinking of doing a neat job with velcro.
