  • Smoke from exhaust of newly bought YZF R15..

Its been 45 days i purchased a brand new r15..evrythng was fine since the day when i saw visible smoke out my exhaust..whts that?
I am afraid that i really pushed my bike hard enough at its break-in period. Its running on 1100 km today.
I am afraid if i ruined my engine,is my bike dead already? Will it be fine.

I have the warranty of 6 months.
I feel like i played wid the piston ring.

They will repair it for free, but will it back to normal again?
Is the piston ring only resposible for this problem?
I can see black residue at the exhaust aswell.

If it is blackish smoke you are running rich..check and clean the air filter..If it is bluish smoke then engine compression sealing is kaput..either rings, or the bore also worn, allowing engine oil into the chamber to be burnt.
Any case get it done under warranty and also check for LOW LEVEL OF ENGINE OIL and TOP IT UP..otherwise SVC will say that you had ruined the engine by running the engine with low oil level...Even if the oil level is within the recommended levels take the bike immediately to your Yam service center for getting the problem fixed.

Marshall, the bike may emit visible smoke (its not smoke actually) in cold climate. if the outside temp is lower than then exhaust temp, it can be visible but soon after the engine warms up, there shouldnt be any visible smoke. if you see smoke after warm-up, then its definitely some fault with the engine.

My new Hunk once emitted visible white smoke on a cold morning. I was frightened and stopped the engine immediately. Started again, same smoke. But is suddenly disappeared after a few second and rest all fine. So that must have been something like you said.

I have seen white smoke being emmited from R15 during cold temperature. It's actually water vapour, a by product during combustion. Do you see this white smoke everytime? What's the avg temperature there?

what was the ODO meter when you started seeing the smoke? The smoke is black, as you saw the black residue on your exhaust. Great
So you pushed your steed hard in break-in period.. thats good. I think you wont have even read the manual isnt it bro?

Well even if you did and the smoke has started coming out, the major problem can be your piston ring would be gone. Though did you get your bike checked at the service center? what did they had to say?

Well I think you have given the first slap on the engine by not doing proper run-in and disrespecting such a refined engine. Well dont worry you havent permanently damaged the engine as thanks to Yamaha, these engines can handle abuse. But dont take it for granted anymore. IF the Piston Ring changes start proper run-in for next 1000kms i.e. not exceeding 5500rpm in first 500kms and in second 500kms dont go above 7000rpm. I think that should solve your problem. Also next time after buying any Motorcycle, kindly read the manual and stick to it, atleast for run-in, it would be beneficial

It was around 900km. i guess its just the initial stage since it not so clear for our eyes from distance..if we just catch the eye at the silencer close enough only then we see it..but there is residue. ;(

are you sure my piston ring are gone?
i went to service center and they have called me on June 15.they said they will check the engine oil level only then they will make a exact decision.
And Yes bro,i really didn't check out the manual. DAMM IT

NO,its not just at the morning.it last day long but the volume of the smoke is so low..
Its not the vapor. I am sure about tht

They even cleaned the filter ofc.. they even checked the coolant and the oil level.it was just normal even after the weeks i started facing the problem.
I have already registered the issue to the service center.

TO ALL THIS I WANT TO LET KNOW

I AM NOT EVEN FORM INDIA.i am from Nepal.i heard about this site and tuned in here.thinking that people from India are really good with the bike stuffs.

Indeed, it's will be a pain to see such things happen to brand new bike, but you needn't worry, without delay take the bike to the dealer from where you purchased and complain. This is best advice I can give you as the bike is in warranty.
