  • Seeking for Guidance for Photography Rajasthan Tour on Bike

    Hello friends,

I am planning a photography Rajasthan tour on bike in December 2011. This will be 2 weeks tour. At the moment we are 3 persons confirmed.
We all 3 are based in UAE and have good experience of bike riding in India. I am from Mumbai and the other 2 are from Kerala. Two of us own a bike in India. I will ride my son's R15 and my friend has a Pulsar. Now the third person wants to buy a bike specially for this tour and may be for other future tours. Which bike should he buy? Kawasaki 250 is not worth the cost for this trip. The CBR 250 will be difficult to get before December and it will need enough time for the engine break-in. This friend had been riding RD 350 when he was in India.
So what bike do you recommend? The approximate budget is 1 lakh. Neither he or me are fans of Bullet although I owned one when I was in India but never rode that bike after buying a new RD350. If this is the best bike for tour than I and my friend do not mind buying Bullet. I honestly find it too heavy for the power. Remember our next tour will be Leh. Do you think R15 and Pulsar will suffice for Rajasthan and future Leh tour? Should the third bike be also Pulsar?
I know from the forums many of you have travelled to Leh on 150cc to 220cc bikes but I still need some encouragement. At the moment I am riding Honda CBRxx 1100 Blackbird daily in Abu Dhabi. I am riding this bike from last 10 years.
We plan to start the tour from Mumbai to Rajasthan to Delhi and return by train. We can also start from Ahmadabad if you recommend. This will be photography tour and hence will be stopping on the way frequently to take pictures. Although we all love bikes we don't want to over exert ourselves so that we get too tired to photograph.
    Kindly guide us. Thank you.

Can any one contribute to this thread especially some one who have done Rajasthan? I read Sachin Nair's thread to Mount Abu.

Most of the highways in rajasthan are well made and super smooth.. So a bullet would slightly be stressed at 100 + cruising speeds.

If you get your hands on a CBR250, ( or a second hand one also by december ), it would need only about 600-1000 kms of running in ( if new ) before going on the trip. The benefit will be the power will let you cruise at 100+ speeds easy.

Also remember Bikaner - Pokhran - jaisalmer. Some of the best roads in the country.. You can max out to your hearts delight!!! Just remember, no petrol pumps between bikaner and pokhran ( atleast till Nov 09 ), which is about 240kms. But as far as the eye can see, you will see an arrow straight, smooth road, where you can zip to your hearts content, and not worry about someone crossing the road, or suddenly entering the highway.

My offerings to the gods of speed -

            - KTM Duke 200
            - Yamaha RXZ 5 speed

              hi here too!

beware pumps in the jaipur-kishangarh stretch - badly adulterated fuel last i went that side. Just be careful -> fuel up at jaipur or beyond towards delhi.

I'd love to lay my hands on CBR250 but I don't think that's possible before December.

                  hey hitanshu,
Thanks for your warning. You know, this will be an exclusive photography tour on bike. My other friend joining me on this trip are also photographers (hobby) and biker. If this succeeds we plan to have many more tours like this, of course one of them will be Leh.
