  • Bajaj Auto will not take any more price hikes for now !

    Published on Mon, May 02, 2011 at 11:17 | Source : CNBC-TV18 | Updated at Mon, May 02, 2011 at 15:44 Rajiv's goal for FY12: 42 lakh Bajaj motorcycles on road
Below is the transcript of his interview with Udayan Mukherjee and Mitali Mukherjee of CNBC-TV18. Also watch the accompanying video.

Q: What sales have looked like for you this month around?

A:Q: 3,67,000 is the ballpark run rate that you expect to hold for this current quarter as well?

A:Q: What is the market share at the start of the financial year?

A: I suspect sales in this motorcycle industry for April has been around 9,60,000. So, that would put us somewhere at about 33-33.50%. So, maybe a wee bit up on what we have been doing in recent months, but not a major change.

Q: Will you have to initiate any price increase over the next couple of months because of material cost or you are holding on to that decision now?

A:Q: By which month do you see Bajaj Auto hitting a 4,00,000 per month kind of a run rate?

A: You asked me this last time as well. I was hopeful that we would be there in this quarter. I am still hopeful that especially if the Discover 125, that we launched last month, keeps growing and fulfills the expectations we have of it then that should help us to bridge this last 30,000 vehicles. In its first month, last month, we managed to do over 20,000 vehicles. We are targeting 35,000 this month. Part of that is obviously cannibalisation of our own, Discover 100. But if within this quarter we are able to get to the 400,000 mark, which would be for the first time ever for Bajaj Auto.
If's & but's are not good substantiation after failing the set targets, Bajaj also missed FY11 set targets...hope Bajaj learns to talk less & do more.

4 lakh units mark is not a big thing.. as soon as Disco 125 completes its phased launch they should be able to get there. And with Boxer launch in the offing Bajaj may easily do closer to 4.5 lakh units in near future. Anyone would be happy with 20% margin on 4 lakh units or even less rather than taking a 16% dip in net on 5 lakh units.
