  • Endurance Bikes and more....

    Guys!

Don't you think its time that Indian bike manufacturers offered some off-roading bikes.....I was going thru the Overdrive Superbike pull-out and I could not but feel sorry for us guys about the miserly attitude of TVS...HH...Yamaha...till when do you think we will have to do with the archaic technology and equipment level of Indian bikes. I think its high time that manufacturers give us something more than puttin two park plugs in an engine block, digital mapping, disc brakes, etc. Don't you think we deserve USD shocks, monocross suspensions, aluminium frames, fuel injection, etc. and for once take a fresh perspective on Indian rider. I was hoping that someone would start with a dramatic approach and give us bikes from the top of the value chain....I mean performance bikes.

Frankly I keep on drooling over the likes of KTMs....the 600 GS and the likes. I am sure if Kinetic can sell the very ordinary Aquila and the Comet....I mean they are meant for streets ...roads which we don't have but we have miles & miles of trails and kachcha roads where we can have our kind of off-road fun, we can very well have 250-400 CC range of off-roaders from Honda, Suzuki.

I have very few expectations from HH, Bajaj, TVS but the Japs can certainly give us what the market does not offer at the moment. I am sure there is someone out there in this forum who is listening and will put in the right word to the japs and fulfill our wish.

    If not now then when.....

its true that the indian manufacturers aren't aiming towards the off=roading community....at least BAJAJ was planning a bike (Anhelo wasn't it?)....heard it was shelved years ago...some say its still under wraps....its not that they dont have what it takes....

You guys in Nepal are fortunate that way. I am sure you guys are able to import the bikes you like from the far-eastern countries. I've heard from one of my friends in Kath that you guys are more passionate about biking as such. You guys also have a mountain sports biking competition sposnsored by Bajaj. I saw it on A1. I mean this is the kind of platform that is required to gradute to motorbiking off-roading sports. We in India....have only MotoX and raids. I am sure the competitive spirit will filter down to the measses there and you guys would be able to command the market for such bikes there in the future.

SUV's don't venture out off road any further than setting 2 wheels off the shoulder of a narrow road only to let a bigger truck pass , how does one expect people who see bikes are A to B cheap transport even think of off road bikes ?

No doubt a few will , but economical enough for a production scale ?
Man will occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of the time he will pick himself up and continue on.

Ya the only off roader that i rarely c on the streets is the Bajaj ENDURA!But well with the production of the 2-STROKES which has almost ended ecen that bike is not avialable.Ya the Anhelo or Anhilo was expected , n many said it was goin 2 b a 200cc bike but v neva got2 c it.

Since v've got a Bajaj factory here in Aurangabad(Mah) I rem cing this bike Prowler a Bajaj bike ,I'd seen only 1 n that 2 some 1 from Bajaj use 2 ride it.It was when I was at skool.I think the Prowler was named Caliber Croma later cuz the way the Prwler looked was similar2 the Croma.

              It was SX Enduro.
Anhelo is 250 CC v twin, 32 bhp.
I think anhelo is going to be launched sometime in 2005 end.

HUH !! well off roaders - probables are less but we can see it any time cuz its quite certain as we are getting less duties and levies on imported vehicles..

Prowler = KB 125 engine + Caliber Croma body & fairing + front disc brake. It was launched much before the Croma. The bike bombed.
Some men have thousands of reasons why they cannot do, what they need is one reason why they can.

till date sx enduro from kawasaki bajaj was the only off-roader. it was stopped production in 1996-1997. it had a kb-100 engine + expansion chamber + small tank + flashy coloured plastic mud guards. the bike was good but the fairing wasnt good.
who the hell wud buy a 2stroke 30kmpl bike back in 96-97?
that was just not the right time.
if it had been a 4stroker with atleast 110 to 125cc then it wud have been a great success

With all the horrible roads, we really need off-roaders to drive on Indian Roads !!

It was Bajaj SX Enduro and Prowler RR125

Launching of Bajaj SX Enduro was to take on Yamaha RX 100, (I Know KB 100 was there for the same purpose) Maximum use of the fiber body parts and too sporty look was the reason for its failure. It was not a time to launch such sports bike cause bikes were shared within the family members. (Now every family member is having separate two wheeler) It could have been a funny scene to see young boy is carrying his old age uncle on such a sporty vehicle. Also like RX 100 and KB 100 it was not a multy mode vehicle. What I mean is these two vehicles were even used by mid age people and no way these people could have used sporty SX Enduro to travel to the office. Kawasaki Bajaj 4S was also launched and probably parents might have thought of 4S over SX Enduro for economy and low power. This way they managed to secure the purpose of sharing the vehicle, reduced pocket expenses on fuel, and rid from rash driving of their children. (since 4S was very low on power compare to SX) But one thing for sure SX Enduro was very powerful in comparison to RX & KB. You can find this vehicle in movie Sarfarosh Makarand Deshpande riding this bike.

Many times it is considered that Prowler got a body of Caliber (Croma) but thats not true. Prowler was designed and was ready before the launch of the Caliber but due to strengthen environmental norms market launching was slightly delayed. But still it was launched well before Calliber Croma.

Prowler was actually the first bike to come with 5 Speed Gear Box, Front Disk Brake, (Made by Brembo) and Catalytic converter.

I am the lucky owner of one of the very rare vehicle (2001 model). Very thoughtfully full grip Tyre was given on front over the standard ribbed pattern. It was very useful for high speed braking and or while braking on the corners. Those days Disc was not popular but I found it very effective and safe, thanks to Brembo and Bajaj. Soon CBZ & Pulser with disc brake was launched and we heard about several skidding incidents due to disc locking. Riding experience was also way better than RX and KB (I Own these both RX & KB Bikes so I can compare them) Power, Control, Handling, Braking and comfort was simply great. Suspension was also very good Surprisingly Bajaj used Munjal Showa Shock Absorber. Overall build quality was way better than the competition.

Due to strengthen environmental norms, increased fuel pricing these vehicles phased out.

I still own these Two stroke legends.....
