I am a big believer in “Not settling for anything less than what you really want
My buddy who wrecked his CBR 600RR a year ago on one of our rides got himself a 08 Honda CBR 1000RR a few months ago.
Absolutely brilliant bike. There is no doubt about that. I rode it and man that mid range is outrageous. My other buddy whose GSXR 600 got stolen a year and a half ago has been waiting and waiting for several reasons to get his next bike. He is a long time GSXR fan. But he was having second thoughts after sitting on a 09 GSXR 1000 at the dealership and felt it was heavy. After riding the CBR he too started thinking about getting a Honda. The bike looks way better in person. But I knew deep down he always knew he was a Gixxer guy. Though the bike was growing on both of us, we knew it wasn’t what we really wanted.
One fine Saturday, I decide to drive him to the local dealership just to check out some bikes. And there she was standing in the legendary Suzuki blue and white, the 2011 GSXR 1000. His heart melted.
He sat on it and said….F*** this thing doesn’t feel heavy. It looks so bad ass…..DUDE…….I WANT A GIXXER…..I ALWAYS DID…..I will get nothing but a gixxer. The next 30 mins was spent checking out every detail of the bike. Potential mods (yeah..can you believe it……both of us were so mesmerized by it). He made up his mind. Nothing but a gixxer will do. I am happy to tell you that my scheming plan worked and he is all set to get himself a Gixxer within the next few months…July probably.

But wait…..WHAT ABOUT ME……as we stood there drooling over the gixxer, my gazing eye fell upon 2 Projector headlights staring me down. She was out right mean in her stance and her gaze ripped right through me.
You know that moment in life when you know you shouldn’t and you eventually just give in? I had that moment and I made the beautiful mistake of planting my behind on her.

I then ran a self diagnostic
    Heart Rate - Accelerated
Calm head on shoulders - …. What head?

Did you Dream of this - …….. Forever

What will the wife say - ……... Go for it

I then ran a bike diagnostic
    Pedigree -….Legendary
Looks - ……. Holy Mother of God
    Build - ……. Top Notch
Ride Height - …. This was made for my size..its custom :P
    Weight - …… Heavy Huh…no sweat

And then….we went home. My buddy was going nuts. He thanked me for taking him there. I was thrilled for him. But I left with a big decision to make….
    Should I, or Shouldn’t I.
I went home and dint think about it at all. Yeah right, like that ever works. I ended up scavenging the web for info about that bike. I don’t really pay too much attention to reviews on line and depend on forums and reviews from regular people. Even though it was all I wanted everything was leaning towards the bike. It was hard to decide. I had to let go of my beloved R6 if I wanted this. I asked my wife, and she was stunned that I’d sell the R6.
Considering I had put 16K miles on it and almost every mod, it seemed like a good time to sell. Consultations with friends led to the same WHAT…REALLY? It got me thinking, made the decision emotional. I spoke to friends on the forums and they said it was a good time to sell since the bike had lots of miles on it. I decided to SELL. Put up an ad on Craigslist. And I got an offer within 20 mins. Several offers followed during the week….

And just like that…..she was gone .
I sold my beloved R6 2 weeks ago.
It hit hard when I saw her leave…and my wife was sad about it too.

Thankfully the buyer wasn’t some teenaged brat who just wanted to pop wheelies and look cool.
The buyer knew bikes and owned a 09 CBR 1000RR. He suggested me to get one .

Anyway, the next 2 days all I could think about was that mean gaze at the dealership. My friends and I started a mad search nationwide looking for the right color I wanted. Since I usually get a year old model to save some money the search was hard. The bike was either sold out or not in the color I wanted. Luckily we found the last one sitting at a dealership close to my friends work place about 30 miles from my place. He went and checked it out, made a few inquires and sent me a picture. I went nuts. Discussed with my wife and friends and decided on a price that I was comfy with. Saturday April 30 2011 went down to the dealership and haggled for 3 hrs before the dealer agreed to my offer.
I think I have earned my right to a liter bike after the experience gained on a 600.
So dear XBHP……please welcome my brand new 2010 YAMAHA YZF R1 in Team Yamaha Blue and White.
