Hi,
I also had plans for Leh biking trip on the 15th of July 2011, but unluckily it doesn't seems to work out as expected because of a good strength backing out at this stage... But I am all set, could you advice of a group planning for a Leh trip on the same dates in which I can pool in...
I have got all the plannings done and leaves sanctioned, so just don't want to let this opportunity go wasted like this..
Thanks,
Arun

Sunny and bright in September?? I really doubt it man.. Although google seems to agree with September.Originally posted by yatishankar View PostWhy is it so?Can you please elaborate?Since i always feel September is the best time to go Leh because of the weather which will be really sunny and bright
I went there about 2 years back in a car and as early as June the temperatures dropped to below zero in chushul and zanskar valley (over the night of course).
Are you sure september is better?Get ready for the ride! 24 Hours on a Bike...

Yes, sure I will upload my trip log with some details and pictures also.
And for above plans of September, yes it can be a tricky time because you can have roads near Barlacha covered in snow and temperature below 0 degree Celsius.
As per me 1st or 2nd week of august can be a good time with some pros and cons:
Pros:
1) BRO has started constructing roads in full flow, so you will get to drive on more patches of tarmac road.
2) You can get to see more lakes like Suraj-Taal because most of the ice would have been melted.
Cons:
1) If you are riding from Delhi or any where below from south, You have to ride in the rain which will decrease your speed.
2) This rain will make your job of riding your bike at passes very difficult one because roads at these places are untarred roads and with lots of pot holes. With rains these roads become muddy and you don't get an idea how deep a pot hole is!
We faced this situation at Rohtang because of the rain. It was too muddy to drive. And traffic jams were making it worse. Only insane could have driven there! We went against the advice of at least 10 to 15 riders who were returning back as they could not drive or thought it was too risky to drive through the mud. Finally we were successful at our attempt, but other riders were right it was very risky to drive there.
You can face this situation at many passes if you go in august! Good thing is it can add more thrill to your ride though

@lijok, Fuel availability on the way to Ladakh
Till Manali you will get a fueling station at anywhere between 20 to 30 km.
After Manali 1st fuel station is at Tandi which approximately 110 Km from Manali and 7 Km before Keylong. This station closes at 7:30 in the evening and reopens at around 7:00 in morning.
After Tandi you will find no petrol pump till Leh which is around 365 km from this place. Keep in mind that your bike's mileage will reduce at least by 4-5 km on this road and decide how much fuel to carry.
After Leh you will get next petrol pump in Kargil, a 230 km drive from Leh.
You will not have any problems finding a fueling station after that

In June, it is like that.. Snow everywhere and chilled whereas in September, it is calm and serene...The Fastest Indian!!

In case of emergency, you can get fuel in black at Pang. I managed to get it at 100Rs/litre.. this is just to have it in mind & not depend on it.Originally posted by lijok View Postbro... can you also mention the places where fuel is available. Thanks
