  • Going to buy my First Bike: Need Your advice

    Hi all xbhpians,

Myself a Newbie from Hyderabad. Can you please provide suggestion/advice for a my first Bike with below criteria.

    My criteria
    ---------------------------------
    1) Average Usage 1000 Km per month.Mostly i would ride on city roads with heavy traffic.
    2) Budget Up to 1 lakh.
    3) Good Mileage 40-50+.
    4) Very Reliable/Low Maintenance.
    5) Good/Power full engine with max speed 110-120.
    6) Good Handling on city roads.
    7) It will be great if it suits to my personality
    Height: 5.7 feet
    Looks: Beefy Body

    Interested in below brands
    ------------------------------------
    1) Royal Enfield
    2) Hero Honda
    3) Any other brand/model which is meeting above requirement expect Pulsar.

I am hard core fan of Royal Enfield Bikes.. but i feel it may not suit my personality , riding is not comfortable on heavy Traffic Roads and also low mileage(.. ).

And also thinking of CBZ Extreem,Tvs apache RTR 180..

sorry if my requirements are so.. ideal .. if there is a need i can compromise on few things.

Thanks in advance for your most valuable suggestions...

If you are looking for something fast and fun on city roads then go for the Apache RTR 180 ABS or non ABS
If you dont have experience in riding a bike then i would suggest you go for ABS...
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a Ride!' -Hunter S. Thompson

Being RE fan the cl500 with its massive torque(minimal gear shifts) would make a very nice city commuter but at the cost of FE ;45-50+kmpl cheap maintenance good city handling go for RTR160 it will be more fun to drive in city than RTR180(IMO);HH bikes - the new cbz xtreme is feature rich but i feel RTR would be a better pick given your height

Go for the Apache 180..Its a blast to ride in the city or highway
Mileage will be 40-45..Its much more fun than the 160.My friends have
both the 160 and 180.The 180 has enormous torque and power in any gear
              to set your adrenaline rushing.
Hi raja, can you please tell me how is the 160 more fun than the 180?

                Thanks for precious comments...

can you please also share your view on below issues with RTR

. RTR180 Fuel injector : lot of complaints have raised for malfunctioning.
. Disk Brakes : Not working properly in long run.
. And on long rides the rider might have Back Pain.

(Above info i have got from one my friend)

Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.

There is no fuel injector variant for the RTR 180..
TVS had a 160 FI(Fuel injection),the model has been discontinued.I had/have no problems with the disk brakes.RTR discs are one of the best around today. It's just how you get used to your ride, initially you may face some discomfort but gradually it will disappear

                      just my 2cents..

@ceebeer: I test rode Apache 160 and Apache 180(ABS) back-to-back and the A180 had LESSER vibes IMHO.

                      @pavan6754:
I am also going to change my 2006 Yamaha Libero soon.. after test drives, zero'ed on A180-ABS and waiting now for Aug end to take delivery.. I loved it's punchy exhaust note, great acceleration and no-nonsense mean look.

For all your requirements, A180 seems good. If you go through the A180 ownership thread, just Apache needs regular maintenance/timely servicing. Also, in city the mileage will be ~40km/ltr which is a tad less than your requirement.

Take a test drive and I'm sure you will like it!

                              180 -62.8 x 57.8 mm
                              160 -62 x 52.9 mm
so the 160 has short stroke length than 180 consequently good low end punch making city usage more fun
