International Youth Day
International Youth Day (IYD) is an awareness day designated by the United Nations. The first IYD was on 12 August 2000 as an opportunity for governments and others to draw attention to youth issues worldwide. Concerts, workshops, cultural events, and meetings involving national and local government officials and youth organizations take place around the world in honour of International Youth Day. On its 10th IYD anniversary, the United Nation General Assembly adopted the World Programme of Action for Youth, setting a policy framework and guidelines for national action and international support to improve the situation of young people. 15 Priority Areas were adopted by the General Assembly out of which the HIV/AIDS has been listed.
Being the concern youths of the nation and in celebration of the IYD, the xBhp Meghalaya Community has therefore stood up in support of the Aids Awareness Program through a motorcycle rally being organised by the Meghalaya Aids Control Society, Red Ribbon Club, St. Edmunds College and funded by NACO. Altogether 30 bikers from xBhp (Meghalaya), SSR, Venomz and Biker friends have come together in support for the cause. Accompanied by the students of various colleges of Shillong with placards in their hands, the rally will pass through the Shillong-Jowai highway till Mawryngkneng Village and back. The members will stop at various junctions to distribute flyers and educating the public on HIV/AIDS.
