  • Greetings from Bangalore!(waiting for fazer delivery , evening ! ) :)

Hi all Xbhp-ians Big smile for you all ,
Myself sunir from Bangalore , have loved riding since the time i got my first cycle !
    enough about me !
now a lilttle on my biking history :-
I learn riding on a kinetic challenger ( it does make learning a little easier , as it shows which gear we are currently running on )

    1st bike---Bajaj pulsar 150 , 1st generation :-
Was a great bike ! Had many many crashes on it , did a LOT of "Jugaads" in it , & finally after about 7-8 years , it gave up . It took a lot of abuse , people who say pulsar breakdown pretty quick , have no idea how much torture pulsars can take !

    2nd bike---HH Karizma :-
Loved the refinement of the ride after p150 . Initially i mantained it very well , but later , i grouped up with the "wrong" kind of friends , they would take my bike for a day or two & literally rape it !
( i wasnt aware of this until after.) The machine kept together pretty well , never it gave up ! I had it for about 3-4 years , in that time , the only major issues i faced were- spark plug jam ,buggy fuel meter , and a total meter-console crash once , thats all . Anyway , i had to sell it later on , as I need the $$$ , and moreover it was giving me a mileage of 20-25 .
( Please do not blame the bike , the vehicle was awesome , my friends are at blame here ) , Sold it for 30k .

    3rd bike---Yamaha Fazer ( waiting for delivery , due today evening !):
Reasons that led me to choose this bike :
    I had shortlisted P180 , r15 & fazer .
R-15 - Out of the game for me as soon as the v.2 came out . For me a "decent" pillion comfort is a must.
p180 - Loved the power . Hated the kick less start . Had to phase it out mainly because my dad hates pulsars , and because i had already owned 1 before , i dint mind giving it up . ( i personally love how the p-220 s looks , i think it looks better than r-15 too ! )
Fazer - Love the gearbox smoothness! love the handling too ! ( unlike pulsar!) Although i dont like the mileage & power figures much , i'm ready to settle down for refinement , comfort & handling .Besides , my g/f liked the bike too .
Booked a cyber green Fazer , as they told that the black one would take 2 weeks more for delivery .

    A small favor from all XBHP-ians :-

    1) Please dont mind any grammatical/logical errors that i may make while writing posts , i mite post it in wrong topics too , as im new here .

    2) PLEASE TELL ME IF THE CHOICE I MADE FOR PICKING my bike is correct.i want u all's honest opinion please

    3) Please tell me how to extract the maximum mileage from my ride .

Thank you all for reading my lengthy post !
Sitting at work right now & cant wait for the bike guys !
Will upload snaps as soon as i can !

Hi Sunir... welcome to Xbhp and congrats for the yamaha.

I am a fazer owner (1st edition) and mind you, it's a machine much better than a pulsar and karizma. I have rode karizmas and pulsars on long roadtrips but did not find the stability and comfort like Fazer does. (I am not saying pulsars n zma's are not good, they are equally good, I like them too, but fazer is a class apart )

Bought in Feb 2010 and the meter reading is 28000+kms already.

My experience so far: Good touring machine.

+ve points: Stability, riding comfort top class, till date I don't have any fibre part or any other part loose, squeaking or making any noise.

          -ve points:

          1) A bane for the pillion: If you are riding with a pillion for long, the pillion will suffer because of the small rear seat.

          2) Rear tire: Gets punctured easily, not that tough as it looks .

          3) Don't get surprised if the fuel indicator reflects wrong readings. Do not trust the fuel meter, it will start acting weird after few months.

Additional advice/suggestion: Get a leg/crash guard intalled first.

          Enjoy your ride!

              Hey guys !!!!
Thank you for replying you all !!!

Yes , i got the bike !!! man ,, it feels awsome! (im united with a machine after 3 long years ! )

About the bike : Runs good , smoothness of a ZMA is nothing compared to fazer (IMHO) . Took delivery at 7pm , rode it till 12am , clocked 60kms for today , maintained speed . ( just once i went 80km/h , the bike encouraged me to do that )
For me , the main issue is that i feel it needs a 6th gear badly , or some sprocket changes ??

Can some one suggest how to maintain a proper run in , not the classic way , maybe something new you guys know .

Sumit , can you please tell me your fazers mileage figures ? , also , can we change the stock tyres to something which is less "puncture prone" ? Please suggest .

Bluemarine , after riding a karizma , i can tell you that you can definitely go for the fazer , ( new 1 comes with a kicker too) , ONLY IF you are ready to settle down for LESS power & about the same mileage . But in exchange , you get butter smooth gear shifts , AWESOME handling plus you already had a ZMA right ? so why not something new ?
IMHO , a good all rounder & VFM is a p180 , new ones are pretty refined too , also , if you can wait for some more time , you can get the fazer 250 too .. what kind of rides will you be using it for bro ?

              A little O.T :
I have learnt so much from the XBHP forum , thank you all so much .
Any one from Bangalore going for a tour ? please please let me know !
              -------
I will be posting pics & "1st impressions" in the appropriate thread soon .

Hmmm... mileage, in city around 32-35 kmpl and 35-38 kmpl on the highways (can be more, just giving you a rough figure of my 20 month old bike ) and I am glad to know that the new edition has a kick, when I bought n I asked for a kick, they said it will cost Rs. 3500 extra .

About the tire, there is no need to change it, but yes, you will need to check the tire on a regular basis. I haven't changed the stock tires yet.

32-35 in city ?? , what is your riding style ? can you suggest me how to run-in the bike properly ? also , ive heard that stock tyres are pretty useless on wet roads & "kacha" roads , do tell me if this is true .
I was thinking of putting a "classic" (gauge) fuel meter and tachometer . Is this technically possible ? ( i want to keep both , digital & analog )

Thank you for your reply Sumit , appreciate it a lot

Different people have different riding styles. I have the fastest fazer around . Jokes apart, I don't like riding in the city, too much of traffic and hustle-bustle, so I always think twice before riding in the city. Out of total distance covered on my bike, most of kms were covered on ghats, hills, around coastal areas. I like to ride fast. Don't worry about the mileage, I gave you a rough figure. I would not suggest anything about how to ride it, you will figure it out yourself.

Who told you this? Do not listen to anyone who haven't experienced this machine. I have cornered my bike and scraped my knee (with guards) and foot pegs; rode in heavy rains, did off-roading (with some issues) but never had any major grip issue. I don't know about others.

Too much of thinking boy, let it be as it is. Stock looks the best.

If the fe figures are same for Fazer, ZMA & P220, also the price tag is almost around, I would better choose P220. That way I have a little more power which cane be unlkeashed when I want ot open up my throttle.

Generally, I ride on weekends and most of the times highways.

Any clue what would be the model based on which Yam is launching 250cc machine..like is it going to be naked or semi-faired like fazer.

                          Welcome Sunir to Xbhp.

Firstly, the kick lever doesn't cost Rs. 3500. Someone's obviously leaking some $$$ into their own pockets there.
I did training at Ajmer Yamaha SVC, and they were clear on this- Rs. 100 for a kick lever + Installation charge.

Secondly, if your priorities are handling and comfort, you've made a very intelligent choice. However, earlier I would have suggested you the Honda Dazzler, because FZ can't hand out very impressive mileage. 40~ kmpl is about it.

For mileage, constant speeds and minimum gear shifting is required.

Also, you can modify your bike for more mileage:

                          1. Get Joel's Performance Exhaust. Will increase mileage too with some noise increment. Joel's located in Bangalore only... This exhaust comes with a noise killer too which you can add to it. It's a great investment.
He has other products for FZ too, like a Big bore 180cc kit, and he's a genius when it comes to Automobiles. He works for a MotoGP Team, Ten10 Racing.
Drop him a mail at: [email protected].

                          2. Get a 15 teeth front sprocket belonging to Honda Unicorn or Bajaj Pulsar 150/180 UG3. Might cost around Rs. 100 alone, otherwise the whole kit might be expensive.
This sprocket will increase your top speed and highway mileage, with a slight reduction in acceleration.

                          Best of luck...

@Sunir - Congrats! What ever the decision that has been taken would be the best for you and I hope too! With the priorities listed out, I would think you found the right compatible machine for your need. Please follow the run-in period religiously to get lasting performance.

@Sumit:- I beg to differ you that Fazer is much better than ZMA in terms of stability and comfort. The whole world knows what ZMA is capable of and not mere city commuter. It is better to avoid such comparison as ZMA is anyway better on the spec compared to Fazer unless you want keep quoting here.

@Samarth 619:- He's getting a new bike, let him enjoy the bike for sometime before it goes to Joel.
