  • Karizma/Karizma-R Oil Change

How to do an oil change in your Karizma yourself.

    Tools and Stuff's Required:
    1. 17MM Socket Wrench OR Ring Spanner
    2. A Plastic Container or Small Paint Bucket for collecting the draining Oil.
    3. A piece of cloth for cleaning the engine and your hand after the job.
    4. Finally A Bottle of Engine Oil.

    Note:

Use a container which hold's atleast 1L of oil.
    I Used Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20W40.

    Steps

1.Take the bike for a ride for warming up the engine,Say 2 or 3kms.Very hot oil may burn your hands,Be careful.

2.Put the bike in Center Stand and remove the Dip Stick.

3.Find the drain bolt on the left side under the engine near the gear pedal.

4.Place the container under the drain bolt.

5.Use the 17MM Socket Wrench OR Ring Spanner to unscrew the drain bolt,Here i am using my 17MM Socket Wrench.

6.Unscrew it slowly and smoothly, after unscrewing a 3/4 of the bolt, use your hands to unscrew the remaining.Be careful not to drop the bolt into the container. At that time the oil will starts pouring slowly.

7.Take off the Drain bolt,Spring and Oil Filter and clean it and allow the oil to get drained completely.

8.You can put the bike in side stand so that more oil will drain or pull the bike towards left,it will let more oil to come out. There will be a delay of 10secs or more between each drop of oil when the oil is drained completely.

9.When its completed, put the Drain bolt, spring and filter back in right way like this:

    10. Tight the drain bolt, never over tight the bolt and pour new engine oil.

11.Check oil level and make sure its in correct level.

12.Tight the dip stick back in position.

    All advice's and suggestions welcome.
    Waiting for expert's opinion.

Nice explanation with pictures and i would like to add some points.
          1. You can drain the oil when it is hot but after loosening the bolt with the wrench separate the handle and with the socket turn the bolt by hand holding the socket. as the bolt will be on its last end press it against the engine and turn so that oil and bolt doesn't come out all of sudden. After complete opening the bolt slowly release pressure and the oil will drain without soiling and burning finger. This way you can drain the oil even when engine is boiling hot.
          2. While draining tilt towards left side then when flow stops tilt it towards right side for 15 secs and then tilt it towards left side. You will be amazed to see how much oil will drain. Repeat the procedure two times.
          3. While tightening the bolt always tighten it when the engine has cooled down as tightening it when hot can damage the aluminum thread in engine casing. And while tightening always tighten it by hands till no more tightening is possible and then with the wrench give just one jerk and leave it as the engine when gets hot and again cools it will tighten the bolt.

            1. When dealing with cast aluminium bolts, never use a 'C' or 'Ring' spanner. Only use socket wrench.

            2. Draining when hot is good, but theres a procedure to follow. First when bike is cold, un-tighten the bolt, just 1 or 1/2 turn is enought, just to make sure that the oil does'nt leak and that its easily removable with the least effort possible. Now ride the bike, till its considerably warm, and drain the oil. Wait for the bike to cool down and only then put back the bolt.

              Yeah,thats a good idea.thanks bro.

Yes i know, but after this method, will 900ml oil be enough to fill?

Usually i dont over tight the bolt,as you said, will tight it to max with hand or wrench an then a jerk.

For draining the oil completely kick the bike 4-5 times when the ignition is off and it will be better to flush the engine with clean diesel or kerosene,so that the burnt oil will not stick into the engine chamber.

I too tilt to drain as much as possible, you can never completely drain without opening engine so 900ml should be sufficient. I always use 1L bottle and there is always a little left over.

Btw I never give jerk while tightening, just a nice pull is sufficient. Of course it also depends on the tool one is using.

Is it necessary?Didnt petrol/Diesel remains inside the crankcase and mix with oil?

it depends on you,it is done when engine becomes old or the previous oil had burnt extremely enough and have become thick.it just cleans your bike engine and removes dirt which can put scratches on the piston and cylinder wall.and regarding completely drainage of diesel, the diesel will completely come out,and if some drops had left it will completely evaporates when you will run the engine.if you are scare of the same,u can flush with petrol and keep the oil filling cap opened for 2 minutes and the petrol will automatically evaporate.

                        Why a warm up??
engine oil becomes more viscous on heating up. so i guess it will be more difficult for it to flow freely and come out of the engine when its hot.

Don't take me wrong. I really don't know and asking out of my curiosity.

Oil becomes "less" viscous on heating , and the flow of used oil will be easier to drain.
