  • N250 or R15 or DUKE 200

    Hello friends,

I am in a fix. I currently own a perfectly maintained P150 UG1 (2005 model) and now I desperately need to upgrade to a new bike in a class above.

Ideally I was aiming for N250 but after calculations found out that I end up burning my whole salary (loan emi for 1yr and petrol expense) into this and saving just a handful amount of salary.

I have been dreaming about this bike since months and now I somehow feel is not appropriate to burn every penny for it. If I think it with my mind then the answer comes NO. But with my heart, I think this is the only time I can buy such a costly bike (considering I am still a bachelor) and as the time passes I will get caught up in family issues, marraige etc etc and then it will not be possible. So (if i follow my heart)I am ready to go for a year through this hardship (loan and petrol expense) to buy N250.

So What I need to know from you, is it wise to buy a ninja in this tight budget or should I call for another one.

Just when I think of following my mind, a small thought tickles through my mind of coming across a ninja on a street and then me regretting that I should have bought this one.

It is for sure whatever bike I buy other than ninja I wont be fully satisfied with it, since N250 is my dream.

Please help me over my dilemma.

Now considering that I cannot buy N250 (which is most likely) what bike should I buy?
I have shortlisted two options: R15 or Duke 200

P.S. CBR is not an option because I feel there are a lot of quality issues any I also test rode one, I personally (no offence to anyone at all) am not impressed with it. Also I am not in for any Pulsars and Zmrs.

Is duke worth waiting for, what I mean to say is, will it be as good as what R15 has to offer.
For me handling and high cruising speed (not the top speed) are the topmost priorities. I personally want to have a bike with a comfortable cruising speed of 130kmph but I think it is only offered by N250(CBR is not an option).

So to summ it up, should I go in for N250 or book R15 rightaway or wait for the KTM??

    Apologies for the long post.

    Thanks in advance

Though i would very much like you to go for ninja, Your budget constraints do pose a problem. In that case would highly recommend you to wait for a couple of weeks more to get first hand review of the KTM 200. At 25 BHP and weighing 137 kgs i think this bike would pack a serious punch. Heck it would be right on the heels of the ninja if only it was clothed . But on a positive note you get to do more offroading.

Thank you very much for approving the thread.

thanks for your inputs. Would definitely wait for KTM, since its launch is around the corner. Sure the bike will be fun. Ninja i think is a long distant dream.

If you got money, then you can't get a better bike than Ninja 250R in India.

I really think you should wait for the Duke-200. I own the Duke-125 and quiet honestly am so very impressed with the performance of it, I use it as my daily ride and cant wait for a chance to go on riding. With the 200 churning out about 25 BHP trust me you will have all the fun you planning on having. Well it is a naked bike so from what I understand with your post you will have to live with the looks (it is still ranked top as one of the best/sexiest looking bikes in its class), but hey like I said it will sure make up for it on the handling section...
No matter what marque you ride, it's all the same wind.

i would suggest the same... though N250R is indeed a crazy bike. Wait for the initial reports to come out from xbhp. After sales service should not be a problem as well judging the fact that Bajaj PBK has done quite an exceptional job with Ninja series...

                  All the best.

                  Cheers

After test riding CBR (it is my personal view) I felt as if I was riding an upgraded P220 that is it, and paying twice the money just for this reason does not justify.

                      Go with the Duke

Looks like most aren't even considering the R15. Interesting. Anyway, I'm with the rest. If you can't swing the Ninja, the Duke is probably your best bet. The price looks to be about half that of the baby Ninja. However, this isn't the old Duke. You aren't going to be "off-roading" with the Duke 200. This is more of a "Naked bike" than a Supermotard. Something else the Duke has going for it over the Ninja is that KTM has always had very good suspension. The Ninja on the other hand is going to have pretty low-end equipment, since it's really a "beginner bike" everywhere else in the world.

The KTM review says it all.
All set Duke it is for me.

Thanks Xbhp for clearing my doubts.

Based on your criteria above, Duke might be superior to N250. N250 is best in class on track and top speed. Comfortable cruising (at 120, not 130kmph) would be offered by Duke with its upright sitting position.

Dude, for the fun you get in Duke, you won't miss your ninja. Else, try for some used ninjas (i mean worshiped ninjas). If you are lucky and try hard, you will get a good well maintained one.
