Ignoring red light - the most common of the traffic violations - between 9pm and midnight at the Tilak Marg-Bhagwan Das Road intersection in central Delhi, south Delhi's Bhishma
Pitamah Marg-Lodhi Road crossing and Prithviraj Road-Rajesh Pilot Marg junction, again in central Delhi, will invite the penalty.
The police didn't give any reason for picking the three crossings. But, taking advantage of the low police presence during the late hours, motorists tend to speed.
A week-long trial was conducted at the Bhagwan Das Road intersection before the traffic police enforced the fine from Tuesday.
"Anybody found jumping red light on the stretch will be charged for dangerous driving and fined Rs 1,000. Police will videograph violations before issuing challans," said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).
Gradually, the same will be done at the other two crossings. As per the motor vehicles act, dangerous driving invites a Rs 1,000 fine and jumping red light Rs 100.
