Dear Readers,
The iconic British legend finally lands on the subcontinent as Triumph Motorcycles India. Ashish Joshi, Managing Director, announced a brilliant lineup of some of the best motorcycles from their stable that any bike lover would crave for and wish to have in his garage. And Ashish Joshi himself proudly presented the India Triumph stable as the bikes were unveiled at the Auto Expo 2012. In the rather bleak and dreary Auto Expo where there was not much to write home about regarding exciting 2-wheeler launches, this famed manufacturer came in thunderously.
And what was clearly striking was the price bracket:
The bikes that were launched were as follows:
The Triumph Tiger XC
Guideline ex showroom pricing (NCR - Delhi): 11.4L
The Speed Triple
Guideline ex showroom pricing (NCR - Delhi): 8L
The Street Triple
Guideline ex showroom pricing (NCR - Delhi): 5,75L
The Storm
guideline ex showroom pricing (NCR - Delhi): 17L
The Bonneville
guideline ex showroom pricing (NCR - Delhi): 5,5L
Daytona 675

guideline ex showroom pricing (NCR - Delhi): 7L
Rocket III
guideline ex showroom pricing (NCR - Delhi): 22L
Mr. Ashish JOSHI, Managing Director had the courtesy of taking time out and talking to xBhp. I was fortunate enough to be talking to this man as he laid out Triumph's plans for India:
"Triumph did a meticulous study of the Indian market and we have decided to enter a field with calculated measures and with a vision that Triumph is here to make a mark and Triumph is here to stay long term."
How many bikes are you planning to bring?
"As of now we are clearly launching 7 bikes. The sub 800cc categories are in homologation."
What were the main plans of Triumph entering India?
"Triumph wanted to come and stay long term. Which is why we have chosen a path that would make the bikes affordable to Indians. And the only way to do that is to get the bikes via the CKD route. And when we took the CKD route, the bikes have become much cheaper. Besides, if you look at our choices, there are bikes that would appeal to the Indian bikers in all segments."
When can we expect to see Triumph motorcycles on the roads?
"We are planning to open around 3 dealerships initially."
Where would these dealerships be located?
"We are in the process of planning that out. It would be in the major metro cities where people have developped a motorcycling culture. It would take us another few months to iron thing out with after sales service, spares backup and rest."
Thank you Mr Ashish JOSHI for your time. It was a pleasure interacting with you.
