  • Decent powered, 80k-100k, City + Long Rides, Comfortable, Good looks

    Hi Guys,
Just feels great to be a part of xbhp family after being an audience for so long.
Experts, i really need your help in selecting a bike for myself. Here are few expectations from my ideal bike :

    -Anything above 180cc
-I can stretch my budget till 1 lakh
-Frequent city ride and occasional long rides
    -Weight no bar
    -Decent looks
    -Anything above 35 kmpl
    -Should give comfortable rides

    Me :
    -height : 5'9''
    -body : medium built
    -Nature lover
    -Love to travel

I saw Bajaj Avy 220 and its been on my mind from then. On Road price here is 85k. Some of my friends like it and some don't. Some say it will suit me and some say it won't. Anything above 1 lakh (eg R15, Thunderbird) feels heavy on pockets. Its my first geared bike so want to think a lot before buying.

    [IRRELEVANT]

I am from Goa. A software engineer by professional. Currently working/staying in Tamilnadu. In Goa i owned a Honda Dio and been driving that for 4 years until i came here to Tamilnadu. Though that bike is very common in Goa, here i don't even see a trace of that bike. Now i want to own a geared bike (which doesn't lack in power) so that i can travel to work daily and visit places with my friends on weekends. I don't have much experience with geared bike (but i can manage). In this profession, transfers are common so please advise me on how to go about the road tax.

    Bikes i liked :

    Yamaha R15

    Honda CBR

    Apache 180RTR ABS

    Bajaj Avenger 220

    RE Thunderbird

    Bikes i hate :

    Karizma

    Fazer

    [/IRRELEVANT]

PS : Sorry if this sounds like i'm looking for a bride and not a bike :P

You have narrowed down your choices by giving so many filters :-)

      Avy220
      P220 Dtsi
      Apache rtr 180
The new P200NS (You wont get it before May most probably)

Rest are either less than 180 or are overpriced or are in your hate list.
With your body type, you will be fine in all of these bikes. If you do like the Avy220, then go for it. (Only skinny guys will look weird on it)
Another point, don't pay too much attention to what your friends say, its your money and your choice. Everybody has a different opinion on now a bike looks. Do take a test ride of all the prospective bikes.

        If you will upgrade in a couple of years or so then go for the rtr its raw power you will enjoy each and every minute on the saddle if you wanna keep this bike long go for R15 ; any one of these two will be the best bet given their handling prowess;
And bro a true biker will love his bike more than his bride

avenger looks good to me and it has considerable road presence, although maneuvering through city traffic can be a little pain but once while riding in fast moving traffic i saw a enticer cutting through traffics very well.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

                Hope this helps

I just did a 300 odd kms road trip with friends yesterday with 3 bikes:
R15 (my bike), RTR180, old avenger. I drove all three bike and here is what i have to say:
                R15:
                • the fastest and safest good highway roads. the best in high speed stability and braking.
                • very bad on bumpy roads!
                • sets your focus to road than the nature arround

                RTR180
                • nice power output
                • stability over 120kmph not good (in R15 terms)

                Avenger
                • awesome comfort!
                • it can cut through traffic!
                • it can't carve corners at the speeds the above bikes can, BUT
astonishingly even with the much less cornering speeds and efforts
                  the satisfaction was immense!
PM me for Daytona Racing ECU for the R15

avenger seems to be perfect for you.. just go for it ..
fazer was one more option, but you ruled that out.. rtr180 is for those, who love the low end torque and light machine.. but comparatively less comfortable on high speed..

Ave220.. get a windshield(3K) and riding gears(gloves, jacket, knee guards) with extra money..

You cant convert a street bike into a tourer by just adding a semi-fairing(Even though Wiki says so.). And I hate the stock light setup, one for High and the other for Low, They wont light up together unless be push the headlamp button to the middle position.

rtr180 is for those, who love the low end torque and light machine..
I think you meant acceleration, cause low end torque is a term normally related with Under Square engines.

Thanks for your valuable suggestions Mik.
I have seen people doubt the quality of the indian brands. Is it true?
Whenver I see an Avy i just feel like going to the showroom and booking one then and there. But otherwise i tend to think a lot on it

How would you rate Avy on technology scale?
I mean it has no disc brakes, everything is analog, so in that terms.
I am really a fan of bikes with technology at disposal.
Bikes like R15, CBR for eg. will run some checks on start, it really feels like it interacts with the rider.
And yes whatever i buy i'll make sure its out of my choice
Probably taking a TD today or tommorow.

                        Finally the Pulsar 200NS !
Looks like fully refined pulsar. I dont mind waiting if it is worth it. The price will be less than 100k + wow mileage. Also i see that Avy gets the same engine after Pulsar's success. If Avy comes with something new within a year i would surely regret buying it now.
Any news about faired version of pulsar?

I really like the term "Raw Power"
Many guys tell me not to go for Apache as they say TVS is not relaible.
R15 is one of my favourite, so it could be added to my list.

Highly justified for such a long bike
Actually i see more of enticers here than avys. Why did yamaha stop that bike.

So how was it when all of you tried to race on, Was Avy left behind or was it able to keep up with others? (Could be a silly question)

The new pulsar costs below lakh as rajiv bajaj said. if you can wait, that'd be the perfect bike according to your requirements.( including FE) but then at the end of the day, it's your money.. chose the bike which you like. Seriously i'm ready to wait for more 2-3 months if i can get such a great bike. Will the fairing edition be released at the same time? because it wasn't present at the press release venue.
