  • RTR 180 with 160cc bore and piston kit...

I once saw a guy's bike (RTR 180) which had RTR 160's bore and piston kit.. i was amazed at why he would downgrade his current cubic capacity to that of 160. i double checked it, it was definitely a RTR 180 (the crankcase had "0E6" which according to the service manual said that it was of 180).

it made me curious, as to whether the 160's Bore and Piston kit could be fitted onto the 180's without changing the Cylinder Head (i don't suspect that he changed it) and the crankshaft as the 180 has a longer stroke... the rear sprocket was of 180 (46T)...

What Sorcery is this??? could u guys be kind enough to throw some light upon this issue? as i couldn't sleep properly from the day i saw it... my mind has been bothering me as to how it would be possible...

Every BIKE has a lot of speed in it. The trick is getting the speed out of it.

It could be originally a RTR160 with 180 decals. What prompted you to think it was RTR 180 in first place?

Bro.. i checked everything... from the rear fenders (which can't be fitted onto a 160) the rear disc setup, the tyres, the carburettor (mikuni BS29), the speedo, the handlebars, the front forks and rear shocks... and as i said, the Engine number started from "0E6" which is of RTR 180's...

if that guy wanted to convert a 160 into a 180 i don't think he would resort to changing almost every part and not changing the engine in any way it just doesn't fit..

        And moreover, i own a RTR 180 myself.. :P

Then the best thing you could've done is to have asked him!!!

The difference in bore dia between the RTR 160 and 180 is 0.5mm...If a RTR 160 bore is fixed on the 180 then the exhaust cannot be fixed since the 180 exhaust tube dia is more than 160 exhaust down tube dia,and so will not fit into the exhaust groove on the cylinder head.
For converting RTR 160 to 180 you need to change :
            cylinder Kit+crankshaft+TCI
Fitting 160 bore in 180 will reduce the cc to 175,and lower compression.

thanks a lot sir... so, there won't be any need to change the crank, piston, or cylinder head of the 180??? just the 160 bore would have sufficed right???

The bike was actually in my apartment complex for more than 5 months, no one came to claim ownership of the bike... it was just standing there covered in dust... even the security didn't know whose bike that was.. and suddenly one day it was gone !!! i never had the opportunity to meet the owner...

How do you suspect that its a 160CC Bore?

Did you find the "Casting Boss" a small projection on the Bore assy?

Then the only reason should be availability of parts or some other reason like mileage(generally as we think 160CC yields better mileage than 180CC) , also the bike could have under gone a bore seizure.

If the head is same as RTR180,as mentioned by psr there will be compression loss, resulting in poor pickup, mileage. BUT THE TRADEMARK VIBES SHOULD HAVE DISAPPEARED (may be thats one reason)

Performance should not be the factor.

Is it possible to fit a RTR180's carburetor (Mikuni BS29) on a RTR160? Is it a straight fit?
