  • Urgently need advice, reviews and comments on Yamaha SZ R

    Hello Everyone

I am Sunny, currently based in Pune. Yesterday I went to check out used bikes in a local market. Found mostly Pulsar 150. Somehow I am not too keen about Pulsar. Then suddenly I remembered my initial plan, i.e., buying a new bike rather than an used one. I had a Yamaha RX 100 and due to document problems (its a long story), I couldn't get it in Pune. I really enjoy riding Yamaha (tried my friend's Gladiator). Not known for mileage, but decent mileage and most importantly, Yamaha's amazing pick-up and powerful engine always impress me.

Although I am working, FZ 16 is little beyond my budget. Will have to get the bike on loan nevertheless. Yet to test drive SZ R, but I thought I should take some expert opinions from people who know more about bikes and hopefully people who own SZ R.

    Hoping for everyone's quick response...

sz-r is indeed a good bike, engine is smooth, mileage is good, the best factor is the price-point,making it total vfm.for further details check out sz-r ownership thread.

if you could provide your budget we would have able to widen your option.

take a look at pulsar 135,to me it is better proposition than sz-r at the same price point.
and the question remains why do i race?
every finishing line is the begining of a new race.

#i have learnt to manipulate my own adrenaline and the perception of biking is different.
      #overkill is underrated.
#how random roads may appear there is always a destination.sigpic
#i don't subscribe to co-incidence,either it is the rider or the other moron on the road

(:)people keeps on saying add spark to life, bajaj got hold of that idea and added an extra spark to bike.

I too was in the same dilemma, you can easily go for the yamaha szr for its reliable FZ16's 153cc engine, at the same time you can be happy about the seting position, cheaper investment cost, and better mileage too.

          Go for it.
There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

              Test Ride Done

              Test Ride Done

              Pros:

              1. Smooth engine start.
              2. Comfortable seat.
              3. Comfortable to ride with a pillion rider.
              4. Comfortable handle grip and bar.
              5. Comfortable riding position.
              6. Responsive brakes.
              7. Good handling.

              Things I'm not sure about:

              1. Felt the front part of the bike was very light. Maybe because I was riding my friend's Pulsar recently, which is little stiff and heavy at front.
              2. Maybe the tyres were not gripping well.
              3. I had a RX100 earlier. Something's missing in SZ R. I think I'm missing the excellent pick-up, for which RX100 was, is and will always be known.

              Price:

On road price quoted: Rs.65,000 (Pune). Is it real or are they quoting high??

              Regards,
              Sunny

tyres are from tvs i guess,no zapper.
light front part will help you in easy maneuvering.
well you can't compare rx with sz-r.

                have you test ridden p135,more pick up,more mileage,more style,more goodies,lesser price.
and the question remains why do i race?

+1 for P135. Awesome combo of power+FE. Also 4 valved engine will race ur pulse unlike SZ-R.

I don't think the P135 is a better proportion to SZ.
SZ has a best refined engine borrowed from FZ and the handling in the city is excellent. Yamaha's are best in the handling whether it is RX/R15/FZ and SZ share the same DNA so they work well.
The tires are from TVS that is the reason for poor grip when you upgrade them to MRF or CEAT it will be fantastic.
It is the best value for money bike and the most important aspect you have to look is the reliability.
When compared to Yamaha SZ in reliability P135 is nowhere.
Go for SZ its a good choice

Any way he is not going to scrap his knees he is looking for a decent commuter so SZ is the go.
I still see new pulsars having the reliability issues. This doesn't mean I don't like pulsars or against them..

He didnt say P135 is better in refinement. SZ-R are more refined than P135 but on the other hand if refinement was his main concern then he would have gone for Unicorn. I agree price wise and looks wise SZ-R is very decent commuter. But in these days when the Fuel prices are ever soaring the cost of running bike has become a main factor. P135, one of the most fuel efficient bikes on sale today, would easily give him 10kmpl more in the city compared to SZ-R also giving him the grunt in the engine which SZ-R lacks. SZ-R are very reliable but P135 is also decently reliable. Overall package is very good for P135.
Also he rode an RX-100 and wants a powerful bike (he mentions them). SZ-R would be a let down in those terms.

It depends on personal liking. Both r good in their own terms.

                            ..
not better refinement, but reliability is same if not better.

what are you gonna do with refinement anyways?

                              Relax Guys

                              Chill...

We are not fighting about which is the best bike in the world types. I believe, all bikes and cars are good. People put lot of ideas and efforts to make those. Let's respect that. Every bike has it's own Pros and Cons.

Definitely I crave for RX100 type pick-up but that was a 2-stroke engine, which is banned now. If it was not banned, I would any day prefer a RX100, even with 30-35km fuel efficiency :-)

I tried P135, my friend has one. It is good. Its little lighter than SZ R, but ok for me as I am, you can say, lean (not thin) and about 5'8'' height. SZ R is a bit more comfortable than P135.

Unicorn's engine is definitely well-refined (I tried my friend's). SZ R is refined as well. Pulsars lack some refinement but must say that Bajaj has improved tremendously over the years.

As I am not from Pune, sorting out the document issues right now.
